My hip shot answer is that there were no American Armored units (of any size) serving with the British in September of 1944 during Operation Market Garden.

Market Garden was a sneak attack behind enemy lines, all thrown in from the sky. No tank divisions, no submarines.

No, there were no U.S. tank divisions involved in this operation. There were however several tanks from the Irish Guards Armoured Division, and several from the British 11th Armoured Division and the 7th Armoured Divisions.

The only Americans even remotely involved was an engineer corp that was assigned to the task force for the purpose of coming in AFTER a successful engagment to build fording bridges if needed. Of course, it was a dismal failure, so they never came to the forefront... they remained in the rear waiting for orders that never came.

The American units were the 82nd and 101st Airborne. There was also an engineer unit bringing up the rear. The British used their own armor units. Montgomery come up with this plan to end the war by Christmas
