i am really struggling to think of anything to use for a pine tree in 1/35, i have seen some ways of making them but they always seem to come out looking bare and generally not pine tree looking at all.
don't know if anyone can help with what to use for the needles, but it would be much appreciated?

I have seen some Dutch modelers creating some really realistic looking pinetrees with Asparagus plumosa and a Balsawood dowel.

Another tip... If you are lazy (like me) Drop this guy an email and ask for his Pinetree set. For around 10/15 euro's you'll get a box with three stems/trunks in different sizes, enough Glycerine treated Asparagos for three trees and a bag of forest floor scatter. The set is more or less made from the article I just send you and you'll get it in the box as well.

Hey Stan, you can also check out Claudes castel build here on armorama. He has a post in it with some pine trees he built and pics of the different ferns and stuff he used. If need be, just ask him and he will take the time to answer your questions, heck of a nice guy and one dam fine modeler too. There was a rail road company called Campbell Scale Models that sold the dowls and glyceren ferns to build them, but not sure if they are still around or not. Hope this helps you some.

Armorama is full of articles about making pine trees! What did you check out already ? :-)

Here is a picture i posted some (long) time ago


It shows from left to right
-a tree made of Aspargus fern (the trunk is to defintely to big, this was my first one)
-articicial stuff, Mininatur or Silflor. It's a net glued on wire branches. There is other artifciial stuff available depending on the tree you want to make.
- One made of moss i harvest(just sprayed a bit)
- The last one is a piece of moss you can find as such on the trunks of humid hedges, just colored a bit here

There are a couple of UK stockists, one at least being in my home town of Salisbury, or just deal direct. They really are very good and in my view, not crushingly expensive.

Look up Jack Work method. You may have to add "HO Scale" to the search parameters to narrow it down.

Not just pine trees but the pine tree branches to conceal German tanks during WW2. Of course I could just cut the "pine trees" apart!Thanks. Any suppliers for that.

You might take a look at The Scenic Factory (www.thescenicfactory.com) Pine tree kits and ready made. I've made several orders with this guy and so far no problems. Woodland Scenics offers 6" - 8" and 7" - 8" pine trees in both kit form and ready made. I have not seen these and it's a little hard to seen how good (or not) they are from the photos.
