Hello all,
First off Happy New Year to everyone!!!!
I have a couple of questions concerning Sdkfz 251’s in general:
1) I have just got a new sdkfz 251/3 from dragon, it’s a great kit and I have put most of it together. But I am not sure as to the color of the radio equipment?! Also what color would the interior of the storage compartment be?! And finally what color would the paint be under the grey coat, like if the German grey paint job was scratched what color would be seen?!
2) Is it true that Dragon might release an Sdkfz 251 Ausf A?? And what are the odds that it’s a 3 in 1 type kit?!
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer, and once again happy New Year!
Regards,

I think the 3in1 kits are not on Dml's agenda at the moment, back in 2003-6 they were all the rage. Now it's smart kits.
as for the radio..

Vladimir,
The Germans used Red Lead Primer as did most nations off that period. The color can vary from red orange to red brown and is the same as found below the water line of most ships. The Germans used this under all of their paints on all of their vehicles, from beginning of the war to the end of the war.

Vladimir,
Sorry, I neglected part of your question. The interior of the stowage areas would have been painted the exterior base color for most of the war. In the late stages of the war however these areas were sometimes ignored and left in the red lead primer color that I mentioned.

if you want a 251A, you may have to settle for the Zvezda 251B kit and back date it (tool placement, visor hatches, etc.). Also the interior is incorrect anyway, but not too difficult to fix. They did re-issue the kit as a 251/10 and a 251/3.

Thanks’ a lot guys for all the input, I am going to have to look for the Zvezda 251 Ausf B! but if I want to convert it to an Ausf A does anyone know what the vision ports on the side look like from the interior, or what other differences exist between the Ausf A and Ausf B?
Also need to buy some Tamiya Red Hull paint I have a lot of German armor I would like to add chipping to.
As for the radio, thanks’ for the link but I am also looking for the color of the radio equipment used at the rear of the Sdkfz 251/3 Command vehicle, it is not indicated in the dragon manual.
Thanks’ again guys for the help, much appreciated!
