Just wondering who knows how this kit works for replicating a Canadain Sherman III? I know they used them but personally, I'm not sure about the little side skirts. The pics I have also show a one piece tranny cover. I know some of you are much more knowledgeable about this than I. Thanks

Sherman components were interchangable, so unless your are modeling a particular vehicle, anything goes. There may have been sideskirts, but as the campaigns progressed they were damaged and lost and no real effort was made to replace them.

The kit is configured as a fairly early M4A2 DV as used in the NA Desert. If you want a vehicle to use as a Canadian one (I am assuming NWE) then I would recommend getting the excellent Tasca Sherman III w/cast Drivers Hood 35-018 or DV Hood 35-017) which is more typical for a Canadian example. The other (cheaper) alternative is to use the DML M4A2 (either Tarawa [6062] or Sicily [6231] Boxings) with the Welded Hoods which were used a lot by the Canadians in Normandy.
Personally I would go with Tasca over DMl any day but the DML M4A2's aren't too bad but the Tarawa one needs a few corrections such as new eangine access hatches (in almost all new DML Sherman Kits as a spare) and thickening the front of the hoods. This was corrected in the Sicily kit although it has the rarer WE 210 tracks I have yet to see on a NWE Sherman.

Thanks guys. This is the trouble I ran into a while ago. There seems to always be something missing in the Sherman kits (Tasca not included) needed to complete a Canadian version. Tasca unfortunately is a little pricey for me.

I just had a look at an online review of the kit, and it looks like you still get the late one-piece tranny and wide gun shield needed for a Canadian tank in NWE. However, it comes with the very early bogies seen under M3 Lees, so you'd need to swap these out for the later parts as included in other kits. Fortunately there are a few of us folk who have spares to offer...

The other big gap is decals - you'll need to identify your chosen unit and seek some AM markings. Again, asking the community here is a good way to go, especially as you only need enough for one tank.

A little while ago I built the Tasca "cast hoods" kit as a Canadian tank in the Netherlands, and backdated it to the earlier DV configuration with a spare hull ordered from Tasca. I did a build log here on Armorama that got turned into a feature and you might want to look at it for detail ideas.

Look, you probably have already spent enough to get the job done, there's no need to run around looking for the Tasca kit, but if you must you could just go for one of their bogie sets instead, unless the correct mid VVVS bogies are already in the CH box. Then you could save the early VVVS bogies for your Grizzly. I agree with the other answers, however it's just a matter of what you want- absolute perfection or pretty much good enough. Trust me, the duffer judging it won't notice the difference.

Thanks guys for your input, I appreciate it. I probably shouldn't worry about accuracy too much as the people who would see my tank in person would never know the difference. Only a few on the forums would probably speak up.

I had a few bucks from Christmas to spend at Spruebrothers. I usually buy stuff from their "Super Special" list. I went the safe way. I just got the M4 105 as AlBowie says (in another thread) it's pretty good as an out of the box Canadian build ( minus decals of course). Should have got that Sherman III too. Spruebrothers has a good deal on these tanks if anybody wants one.
