Happy new year everyone!
Struggling in past two years, I finally finished this 1/35 M1070 HETS resin kit from Accurate Armour. It really took me a lot more efforts to build a resin model in compare to the plastic one, and I would have waited for another two years if I knew about the releasing of the plastic version M1070 from Hobbyboss. Any way, despite the undelighting procedure, I'm so glad that I finally done with this giant tractor so I can move on to the next project, which will probably finish by 2013?let's go with 2014....... I'm really slow on model building.

AA released this kit many years ago and I really liked this model. However, I was expecting Tamyia or Trumpeter to come up with a plastic one. Unfortunately, at the time they did not, so I convinced myself that the plastic version of M1070 will not come out soon, then I bought this expensive Accurate Armour M1070/M1000HETS resin kits and brought it all the way back to china.

The nightmare began when I started building this. There were three missing parts, and one missing decal for the tractor. I contacted Missionmodel, a US online model store where I bought it. , they promised that they will get them for me but they never did! I called them three times within 6 months. (in order to get those missing parts I even made another $30 order on their website so that hopefully they could send me both the order and missing part altogether. it ended up that I received neither! I had it enough and couldn't wait any longer so I decided to make those part on my own. Also, there were numbers of twisted parts that I need to fix before I put them together, those were actually acceptable for me consider it's a resin model. Regardless of those missing and twisted part, I do think AA's M1070HET is a wonderful model. Here are the picture of finished diorama, Enjoy!

Here's the interior part, I add many extra details like water bottles , wirelines, laptop and many other little stuff from Pro Art, Blast and Trumpeter productions.

For crews, I used parts from Alpine, Mig and Tamyia to design and create the gestures so they can fit in there naturally.

As I mentioned, there was one missing decal, they mistakenly gave me two same decals for the trailer part.

I made the missing parts, here's one

I didn't finish the trailer part.......probably never will....
I took two figures from a previous diorama and set them aside to M1070 in this new diorama.

I have seen the Hobbyboss M1070, which's absolutely excellent. Besides the rubber wheels, I think it's just as good as the resin kit for it's high accuracy and details. As I said, I would have waited for it if I knew it's coming out shortly. However if I did, then I would lose a chance to publish this work in the model magazine because, as a slow builder, I'm always behind!

Thanks for watching ! Enjoy!
Again, happy new year!

Well done Richard! it is a really proud moment when you finish a marathon build ! I really like the diorama it is a beautiful result!! - especially the interior with the "electronic battlefield" equipment in the cab. Very sorry to hear of problems with getting the missing parts. I am fortunate that living in the UK I order direct from the AA website - the service is second to none. Derek will send missing parts the very next day and all orders have been very promptly delivered.
I wish we could see the trailer built up - but appreciate it is a massive kit itself!

Need to ask you - the M1070 with the weapon remote system on the roof!! the picture with the HUMVEES - what kit is that? It looks very cool!

cheers
Mark

Ha, I'm so glad you like it! Thanks!
Anyway, I wasn't that lucky with the missing parts . I will finish up the trailer part in the future indeed haha, I just don't know when, maybe next summer break.

The weapon remote system is from Blast model kit (BL35153), it's mostly for MATV or M1151/M1114, not suppose set on the top of M1070, but it does looks cool with it haha!

It came out nicely. I did the AA M1070 a few years back for a customer. I didn't have any issues with it. It went together great for me. Yours looks good too.

The only issue I see is no antennas. With all the digital and coms gear you have inside (way too much for a HETS by the way), it would need at least three or four antennas.

Absolutely brilliant work Richard. The paint work on the vehicle is top notch. Desert camo can be pretty difficult to make look interesting and all to often I see models with a bland finish, but yours looks really good, the subtle fading and weathering is spot on. I really like all the little extras you added as well, makes for a real feast for the eyes.

Seeing this makes me want to shell out the hundred bucks for the HB kit, alas i'll have to wait!

Sounds like a frustrating 2 years but the result is outstanding. Love the detail on the interior and the figures....

So glad to hear that, thanks! It is indeed quite difficult to make desert camo look interesting , I tried my best to make it look realistic while keeping the surface clean, so it does not look too dirty!

You are right, too much digital and coms gear for HET here. I exaggerated a little bit to enrich the interior details. As for the antennas, however, I seldom see any on real M1070 pictures, maybe I will add them later!

Very nice, Richard. I guess the Jarheads are borrowing it from the Army?
The figures are nicely done as well. The two from the old diorama - I like the bald one! Whose is it, or did you modify it?

On a side note, although that was an old diorama, we really don't like to leave ammo lying in the sand like that.

Thanks ! .
The old diorama was from at least five years ago......I thought it looks cool with bunch of ammo boxes lying on the ground, I guess it wasn't right huh? . For the bald figure, I modified it with parts from Dragon(3037),Trumpeter and Tamyia modern us figure set.

Richard
You should feel proud of your model, truly superb.
I have built the Accurate Armour kit as a newcomer to medelling. Although i certainly found it challenging it was certainly an acheivment when finished. I brock a few parts and must say Derek at AA was superb and had the new parts delivered 2 days later.
I have just started the Hobbyboss kit and already found errors in the instructions, parts not numbered and parts not fitting! will keep you posted on progress (probably 2014!! only kidding!!)
Regards

Phil

Hi Richard. Superb model,. I'd ask you to share with us the paint brand and color you used on the vehicle to simulate the desert theme. Thanks

One suggestion. The "fifth wheel" should be coated in black grease, this is what the trailer rides on and is always covered in copious amount for grease. Other than that it looks great!

I forget if you start counting the driver's wheel as one or the passenger's as one.
