Hi
Well can somebody explain the Difference between the Tiger I Ausf E early and the Initial Production both from Tamiya?
Besides the rear exhaust shields and fenders.
Thanks
If there is are a big difference maybe I need to get the Early one to go with the Initial version
this would give me the following ones Tiger I late ,Tiger I middle, Tiger I initial, and if needed Tiger I E early.
want to display the whole series
Thanks

Lord Jeff,
It's my honour to be able to answer you a question in regarding to the Deutsch Panzers:
The biggest difference between the Initial and Early tigers are as followings:
1. The location of the head lights
2. The front fender
3. Of course the exhaust shields
4. The orientation of the engine starter attachement
5. The water filler in the access panel, in the inital model is flush to the deck, whilst in the early is raised
6. The storage compartment is different in shape
That's all I can think of for the time being...

I think I can help with that since I have both boxes here.
Since you know about the rear fenders and exhaust covers, starting there,
----the Feifel air cleaners have different tops
----the early version adds 6 smoke candle launchers on the upper hull, front and rear corners, and center on each side along the upper edges
----the turret bin is slightly different
----the early adds a turret escape hatch
----side fenders are straight, without the slight bend of the initial's
----different gun mantlet
----the early has flat front fenders
Those are the obvious changes, there may be more sutble ones I can't see from the box tops.

If u plan a diorama, u can use an "inital Tiger" at eastern fronts, but u cannot use the other one in Tunisia (shortly).

SS and Grifter pretty much nailed it. Dead on....
The only thing I would say is that those small tubes (6) that are mounted on the upper hull, 3 along each side, front middle and back, are "s" anti-personnel mine dischargers. When Tigers had smoke candle dischargers - they were mounted on the upper front corners of the turret.

Thanks for the correction there Jeff, I forgot all about those being the s-mines instead of smoke. Guess I got ahead of myself just a bit there #:-)

Just a little corection about what 113 said ..There were some earlies in Africa too (504shwere Abtelung)but you would have to drill out the periscopes over the drivers position to be accurate.(Or buy another early and initial and mix and match...lol)
