I mentioned quite a few of the upcoming products from Large Scale Armory in a couple of other threads. One of the items was a 1/24 scale mannequin figure that a modeler could use to create a truly custom figure. Some have asked for more details about these so I've posted some photos to my Photobucket account.

Given the lack of figures in this range, I decided to create a shortcut for those who wished to tackle creating one of their own. The main thing the modeler needs to be able to do is sculpt the figure's uniform and clothing.

All the hard stuff is done already. The basic figure body pieces, head, hands and detailed face. There are also several headsets to be finished soon to add greater variety and realism. When coupled with helmets, ammo pouches, canteens, boots and any one of the great many weapons available from LSA then you can create your own figure in exactly the pose you need.

These detail parts, gear and weapons are available for US, German, British and Russian figures in this scale. While these mannequins aren't for everyone as they involve some sculpting, they are a means of making the badly needed figures in this scale much, much faster.

I have no interest in 1/24 modelling - or at least I didn't until I saw these! What a truly brilliant idea that's been (if the photos are anything to go by) brilliantly executed.
I will definately be having a go at one of these!

You've done a lot of really cool stuff. Those mannequins are a good idea.. at least for someone who can do a certain amount of sculpting. But it seems like you already have quite a lot of stuff, so why don't you start some sales already.. which would also help you get a grasp of the amount of demand out there.

One plea though.. please tell me that when you do start sales that you'll be able to take straight credit card transactions and not just through PayPal!!

Excellent stuff I really like the mannequins. Looking through the weapons-is there an FN/SLR there or if not -do you have plans for one?

Glad to see that there might be use for these mannequins after all as I wasn't sure if they'd be a good idea or not. As far as sales go we're making slow but steady progress on the website that will hopefully take more than PayPal on startup.

I'm trying to come up with an easy to use website that still features lots of detailed photos of the actual pieces. That's the tough part, lots and lots of photos and there are many more I still have to take. So please bear with me as I overcome the last few problems before I can launch LSA.

Also, for anyone located in the EU I'll eventually be having my friend Piotr at 1/25 Panzer Hobby Art as a stocking dealer for LSA products. That should help ease the shipping costs and delay for some people.

I should also mention that the additional headsets for the mannequins should be ready soon and that I'll post more photos of both the female body types as well.

Great. I think the mannequins will also be very popular with fantasy figure enthusiasts- I have a couple of ideas for them already

I think so as well. But I will have to say that I don't have any plans at the moment for any supporting elements for these mannequins in the Fantasy genre. LSA has everything to easily turn these mannequins into fantastic soldier figures but nothing for the fantasy/sci-fi crowd is planned. Still, you're right, they probably will be a good starting point for them as well.

That's one of the reasons I went ahead and did the female versions. I intentionally made two distinctly different female types to allow all modeler's a greater flexibility in creating that custom figure of their design.

This weekend I'll post better photos of the two different female mannequin types. The one currently on the Photobucket page is the very, very slender, small busted version "Type A" that is slighly more articulated. The one not shown yet is the "Type C" that features a fuller, much more feminine figure with a larger bust.

I don't think you need to do fantasy equipments and weapons- I think fantasy and Sci Fi modellers will just buy the mannequins and do the rest themselves.
Besides- where would you start anything related to movies or TV fanasy or Games workshop type figs would be copyright protected.

Hi David,

Landing craft in 1/24? Now that's something I'd love to see if you have any photos. I've got a LCVP (to be a kit) in progress with the hull and some other bits done but it still has a long, long way to go. My dream is to build a LCM-3 someday but at the moment that one isn't even started yet. Maybe someday!

Thanks! I'm glad you like them. I'll give you a shout once we work out the bugs on the website. By the way, the new headsets for the mannequins are in the final stages of development. There are only 14 heads available at the moment but their expressions, race and build should give modelers a very good selection to choose from.

(Including those African American heads we discussed for the 761st Armor ProfessorP!)

Sadly, there are only 2 female choices at the moment and no Asian faces yet but future releases will include more of these.

Hi James, I'm very interested on your figures and your equipment in 1:24 scale, which they are made very well.
I have the intention to build the Jeep made by Italeri in 1:24 and I would to equip it with figures and with some equipment.
Unfortunately I can not find your site. Could you give me his web address correct? Could you also send me your price list? Can I pay with Pay Pal?
Send your products in Europe? I write from Italy and my e.mail address is: [email protected]
If possible, let me know something. Thank you

Hi Gianfranco,

Thanks for your interest! Unfortunately LSA is still gearing up to launch but has not done so yet. So I'm not releasing anything until the website is up. And yes, it'll take PayPal.

LSA will also ship anywhere once it's going but I plan to have distributors in the UK and Australia. Also my friend Piotr in Poland has generously offered to carry my products on his website as well so the EU should be covered nicely.

Hopefully things will be completed soon and LSA can begin doing business! I should note here that only about half of the available modern weapons that will be available have been shown so far. There is much, much more available than anyone knows about with several full resin kits coming as well.

The plan was to originally launch with 8 or 10 accessory sets. With the unexpected additions of the modern weapons and the mannequins the number of kits that will be initially available is now 16. That my friends, is a lot of work.

Thanks James, I'm looking forward to buy your products, which are really very good.
I'm sure you have much success, since on scene of the "large scale" there are only few manufacturers of accessories and miniatures of soldiers made well.
Make my compliments also to your staff, they are really very capable!
Greetings and ... I hope to have good news soon ...

Thanks Roy. We hope to finish the website and get things rolling within the next eight weeks. It'd be done sooner but I have my day job to worry about.

As I posted on the "Tasca Bantam" thread today we will begin by offering about 10 or so kits initially but will add many, many more in the following months. We currently have over 40 individual kits and that is just too many to launch the company with.

We have to get packaging ready, finish photos, finish the website and actually assemble kits in advance so we'll be pretty busy for awhile. But progress is happening pretty rapidly so we're hopeful we can launch soon.

We'll be offering quite a few smaller kits of mainly weapons so that modeler's will have greater opportunity to pick and choose what they want. They'll likely be kits of 6 or 7 pieces of a family of arms, much like the offerings from companies like TANK. For example, 24018 will contain 4 M4s with rail style mounts, 2 M4/M203 combinations and 2 modern helmets. These will be in addition to our much larger, more inclusive kits like 24001 which has 37 pieces of weapons, gear and supplies specifically designed to outfit a Jeep quite well.

And for anyone who isn't familiar, LSA will be offering a great deal of German, British, and even Russian weapons and accessories as well. So you could easily outfit that new Bantam jeep as a Lend/Lease British or Russian vehicle while still loading down Hasegawa's Kubelwagen with lots of gear.

thanks for your interest,
Jim

Hi Jim,

good to hear from you again.
I am looking forward to your shop - in fact I am waiting for your products for more than a year now!

I will follow your progress closely - maybe you have some more pictures besides these "old" pictures of the Jeep with all the add-ons?

cheers

Hi Thomas,

Haven't any new photos of any of the pieces actually added to a jeep model. Most of the photos that we have taken lately (or are trying to take better) are of the various kit contents in their unpainted form. We've only recently settled on exactly what will be in each of the kits so we're having to change directions a bit.

Originally we were planning to have every single piece photographed separately (and paid a man to do just that). But logistically we're running out of time so we'll just have hi-res shots of each kit to start with and maybe a zoom feature as well. Not the ideal we'd hoped for but it'll work for now.

Also I do have a modeler currently constructing a Hasegawa Jeep kit and painting up the contents of two of the larger kits. It's for use on the website but when he's finished I'll post a few here. One of the kits he's painting is 24001 (a larger kit) whose contents include:

1ea. M1 Carbine
2ea. M1 helmets
2ea. M1 Garands
2ea. M1 Garand ammo clips
2ea. bandoleers
1ea. M3 .45cal "greasegun"
2ea. rucksacks
2ea. meatcan bags
2ea. shovels early war
2ea. canteens
1ea. flat folded tarp
1ea. rolled tarp
2ea. flashlights
1ea. walkie talkie
2ea. M1 ammo bags
1ea. first aid kit (box)
1ea. cardboard case of canned goods
1ea. US mapcase
1ea. canvas bucket (opened)
1ea. wire cutters
1ea. 3 piece pioneer tools set
2ea. .30cal ammo cans closed
1ea. binoculars
2ea. bayonets in scabbards
1ea. bayonet
1ea. 35mm camera
1ea. 5gal. US jerrycan petrol
1ea. 5gal. US jerrycan water

In addition to this set the painted jeep will feature both the "Jeep steering and wheel set" and the "Loaded rear tires" set. The first set replaces the front axle and makes steerable front wheels while the second is of slightly flatted, loaded rear wheels. Both correct the Hasegawa tire tread problem.

Again this is one of the larger kits of which there are currently 10 different ones to choose from. Many of these pieces are in multiple kits but each kit features something unique and has a different purpose. For example kit 24008 Command Jeep Kit has many of the same pieces but features radios, pistols, landmines and many other pieces not found in 24001. But most of the kits are smaller and will feature about 6 to 20 individual pieces depending on the set.

Hope this gives you a better idea of what we will be offering soon.

Thank you for your update, Jim.

I will have to hold some of my spending money back to support your business

Your variety sounds great, but I did not find any modern weapon or larger caliber weapon (.30cal; .50cal, 40mm).

Is this not planned right now?
I know, you have enough to do with your current parts and I don't want to bother you with my personal problems - I'm just curious ...

Cheers

Not a problem at all as I have all of those covered in various kits as well. 24012 is a weapons only kit that features the .30cal with the early war heavy cradle. 24013 is the infantry version of the .30cal while 24014 is a .50cal set that even includes both a tripod and a late war vehicle cradle.

Other weapons only sets feature the modern arms you're looking for. 24020 and up feature everything from M4s and AK47s to M240Bs and RPG7s. And to go larger, 24036 and 24037 feature the US 60mm and the German 81mm mortar respectively.

Just to be clear, my previous post covered the contents of just one kit, 24001. LSA has well over a hundred individual items spread out over many, many kits. And there is much more to come once the company is going good and the full line of current kits has been released.
