Saw the Tamiya Marder II from a local hobby shop another day, they have a couple of them there. It appears to be a old kit, because I kinda remember it's numbered 350xx.

I wonder if anyone had built this one, is this one any good? Any feed back will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

it is a good kit, needs work though. better wheels, cover the electric motor holes. needs a radio and a new pintle for the MG34.

Thanks PAK for your comment, I will go get it then. Thanks!

Is there any good aftermarket accessories for this one?

You might want to also change the upper armor plate as their are a few injector holes some are hidden but I changed all of mine. If I was really into contest level then tracks would go also.

Here's some pics of the completed model. No mention of what was used though:

Tamiya MarderII

Here's an aftermarket turret update set from K59:

K59 Marder II D Turret

Hope these help a bit.

Dave--I recommend you study the photos 19K provided. I recall the Marder goes together well. However, placing the gun in the armor plating is tricky. I had a problem with the pieces retaining their adhesion during the process. I used super glue to solve that problem. Also that tool like box that goes on the right fender needs some work to stand out. Use a nice wash then drybrush for best results. Hope this helps.

I would suggest that you not use the K59 update set as the gun is completely wrong. The Marder II as represented in the Tamiya kit has a completely different gun, the Pak 40 a 75MM gun.... the Marder II D as represented in the Alan, Maquette and K59 models is a Russian anti-tank gun.

Courtesy of George Parada's Achtung Panzer -

"This Marder II was armed with a captured Soviet 76.2mm F-22 Model 1936 divisional field gun, designated as 76.2mm PaK 36(r) L/51 anti-tank gun, and rechambered to accept German 75mm Pak 40 ammunition"

The Tamiya kit is not bad...you can read a great article about building this kit over on www.track-link.net. The article was written by Tim Street and is titled -
"Detailing vs. Out of the Box: Tamiya's Marder II".

Hope this helps,
Tim

I too saw this kit at Hobby Lobby and was wondering if it was any good. Like I need another model kit.... Still, it does look interesting. However, I think I'll get some more US armor. Seems like I buy more German stuff for some reason.

Tim--does this gun data apply to Tamiya's latest Marder kit also? If so, where do you get the correct gun system?
thanks

The new Tamyia Marder III H used the Russian 7.62 cm gun. The K59 version is truly amazing and has raised the bar a bit in terms of aftermarket detail quality. The K59 corrects the admittedly tiny, errors in the Tamiya gun.

To complete the "confusion" the Marder G (Italeri kit) and Marder M (Commanders and soon to be released Tamiya Kit, and maybe even a Maquette kit?) both use the Pak 40.

I believe that most of the confusion comes from the fact that all of these vehicles used the same ammunition as the Germans simply rechambered the Russian gun to accept the Pak 40 rounds.

There are other vehicles called Marder based on various chassis including the Lorraine and the Hotchkiss.

Hey guys, really appreciate all the detailed comments/suggestion. I think I am going to get this kit anyway....Since I have a number on hand that I need to work on, so I will perhaps get the aftermarket accessories in a later stage.

So maybe I shouldn't get the K59 update, and just go for a nice aluminum tube of 75 mm, right?

Dave,

For every kit I buy, I make a list of all possible after-market detail available. When it comes time to build the kit, I ask questions about specific stuff from the list on-line to get feedback and then get the details that I want based on that feedback. As it turns out, I have the Tamiya Marder II at home so I have a list of possible details. If you are interested, let me know and I will send you the list.

Hi Adam,

That will be great, so I don't need to shop around blind. So if not too much trouble, please send me the list. Thanks!

I've had this kit sitting in the closet for a while now because I didn't like the paint schemes offered in the instructions. Worse yet, I can't find a built model online with a scheme that I like. Does anyone know if this vehicle would appear in panzer grey? I'd have to look it up to be sure, but I think the vehicle's date of introduction puts it in the panzer grey time period.

I would think that this could be in panzergray too, I am no expert, but my logic is if Marder III has panzer gray painting scheme. I think Marder II can be in Panzer Gray. But of course this is just a speculation.

I have uploaded five images of the fightingcompartment of a MarderII to the photogallery.
I will probably go to the Armor museum in Axvall on June 15 and then I can take some more if you like.

Modelkasten --- SK-25 --- Pz. II/Wespe Tracks
Moskit --- 3530 --- Panzer II Ausf. F/Marder II Exhaust
New Connection --- 35186 --- Marder II Detail Set

The K59 products are some of those rare, "Holy Grail" detail sets... you can usually get them the first hour of shopping at a major show like AMPS... but the rest of the time... your best bet is probably, R & J Enterprises . It may take awhile to get them, but they are worth the wait
