What would small arms fire (.50 cal or less) do to the finish of a M2a2 or M1A1/2?? I know that there would NOT be any penetration, etc, but what happens to the paint, the surface, etc.? Is it pock marked, does it chip the paint tothe primer or bare metal?

Along that vein...how about an RPG to the front of a M1A1/2 or M2A2?? What I am looking for is not penetrating hits, battle scars if you will...

Thanks!

I don't have photographic evidence, so I'm just guessing......

but I think small arms fire would leave some "dents/marks" on the vehicle..The paint will get damaged, that for sure... Also tool boxes, stowed items,... are not armoured, so these things would show more damage...

About RPG impacts, I think this would some sort of central mark, encircled with little holes...
In one of the Verlinden Warmachines (think it's #8 ) there is a good picture of what sort of damage it would do to a M113, but take note that the actual vehicle was not taken out by an RPG...So you should bring it a bit to "RPG scale"...

Thanks Johan...

I have looked through a lot of reference materials and have not found anything showing the affect (or is it effect) of small arms fire on armor. As you said, you ould expect some pockmarking and damage to the paint.

Anyone have any pics of hands-on knowledge- it would be appreciated!

TIA
