Hi. I am on the learning curve for these products. Recently purchased some AK Interactive washes. I am curious to know if there is any alternative thinner(s) to use with AK Interactive washes that are available at a local hardware stores or paint shops ? I did see some "White spirit" and "Odorless turpentine" there on my recent trip. Thanks for any advises.
Thanh.

Thanh: I use odorless turpentine and I believe mineral spirits will be fine too.

Ive seen so many different tips for thinners over the years for enamel paints. From my experience, you should experiment first on something you painted to the side .... maybe keep a casting block and paint this at the same time, and paint it similarily to your model and try your thinner on that first ... better than washing away your paint work and time spent!! It happened me once. Since then I only use Humbrols enamel thinner ... very mild and never lifts the ground paint.

Thanh,
If you can't get AK thinner, I would suggest odorless mineral spirits. Turpentine is too aggressive.

Hi Frank. Thanks for the advise. I have a broken kit that I will use for testing since this is my very first time doing filters and washes.
Hi Tom. My local shops don't carry AK Interactive and Mig Production items so i have to order them online. I will stop by Lowe's tomorrow to pick up a bottle of Mineral Spirit and give it a test.
Thanks both for the replies.

You can use the Mona Lisa brand of artists odorless thinner from Michaels craft store. I have been using this for years to thin oils and it works with the AK washes, filters ans grimes.
