hey guys its the newbie again.... Just wondering about paints....i realize there are a lot of paints out there but i want to stick to the brands i know ..they are Testors, Vallejo, and Tamiya paints. I was curious as to what paints everyone prefers for the following colors/schemes ....(and if you know the paint number ..will help)!
(for splinter camo for german tanks)
dark yellow/base yellow
brown
green
panzer grey(know its a mixture)
russian tank green
us sherman green

These colours are the subject of an awful lot of internet traffic over the last 15 years.
Tamiya Dunkle Gelb is considered a good match for the German Yellow
Russian 4BO apparently matches well with Tamiya IJN Green
American Olive Drab (not _green_) matches well with Tamiya XF-61 Olive Drab.
Each of these has to be lightened for scale effecta and then weathered, but these are generally accepted matches for fresh paint.
Many of the paints labeld Olive Drab match to post war FS swatches or are from forumations for WW II aircraft. These tend to be lighter in tone than US Army WW II OD.
If you do a search here or over on Missing Links for these colours, you find some "lively" discussions to & fro.

Paul brings up a good point, there is a lot of interpretation of the colors. While I listed colors, those work for me, Paul list colors that work for him. It is up to what the modeler best thinks matches his work. And what paint he/she feels works best for them.
