One of the hobby shops I buy from has started carrying these paints, at first I wasn't fond of the eye dropper design of the bottles but I'm finding that it works well to drip a few drops of paint and then brush it in. My question though is air brush related, the vallejo paint seems gritty when I mix it with denatured alcohol, Tamiya and Model master don't do this. Is this normal or does this brand require a differant thinner? I had assumed that the bottles were intended primarily to make it easier to mix for an air brush. It sprays ok but leaves sand sized chunks of paint in the bottle.

Vallejo mixes and thins with water. I would not use Denatured Alcohol.

Vallejo actually recommend using water, but have you considered using Vallejo model air. These are especially for airbrushing.

I use water to thin when brushing but have had problems in the past with the paint beading up if I thin with water in an air brush, I guess I could try a 50/50 water / alcohol mix or try mixing it with water and then adding a little alcohol at the end, I've never heard of using Windex but I've used it to clean brushes when they get too stiff. I didn't know Vallejo made paint just for spraying, I've mostly used Testor's acrylic model master and Tamiya but lately I've been unable to find model master and one of the shops has started carrying Vallejo which I've heard good things about. I like it so far but the gritty thing seemed strange.

just mix with distilled water I've found in the past that they spray ok out of an airbrush
is the paint rough once it's sprayed? maybe some old paint still stuck inthe brush causing problems?

I tried mixing Vallejo with Instanet (window cleaning product). Works P E R F E C T !
Strangely, the stuff smells exactly like airbrush thinner products. Probably same basic ingredients... !

Be careful if you try the Model Air line of Vallejo, I've had some very bad results with them. Others seem to like them, but just as many don't. I'd recommend gonly getting one or two bottles, and trying themout on a scrap model or sheet styrene. I havent tried spraying the regular vallejo through my airbrush, so I cant comment on that.

The best and more secure way to dilute Vallejo Model Air paints is with Vallejo Thinner.
I use them and have no problems when using their thinner.

Just bought a number of bottles of Vallejo's new Game Color series. Really bright and fancy stuff. I'm about to paint graffiti on my diorama walls. These colors are just the thing I need for that. I'm curious how they will behave in the airbrush... !

Just an update, I've been using the Model Color for about a month now, and they work really well. I thin them with distilled water, and maybe a drop of windex to help it "flow." I really like the way these paints lay down, very smooth, and they seem to have just the slightest "sheen" which seems to me at least, to enhance the impression of painted metal, rather than painted plastic. It's very subjective, and hard to describe, but to me, it's there. HTH.
