Hi

Looks like it could be this one :

Another view :

In the second picture, you can notice the tow bar fixed to the front. It's used as a gate rammer :

Sorry I can't tell you more about this AAV, but the only visible markings (there's a reversed "1" on the turret) don't help much (some other markings have apparently been sprayed on)

Hey Chiefgunner. I'm building this same vehicle. Words of warning.Make sure you attach the armor plate, part R4 BEFORE you attach part D28 which I believe is some type of handle. You will not be able to attach D28 after attaching the armor plate. I found this out the hard way. Frenchy has done a wonderful job providing photos of the AAVP. Just about done with mine. Wingman out.

Frenchy Yes the tow bar could be used to knock down walls and door. But it also there in case a vehicle goes down from mechincal or a IED hit and they have to pull the vehicle out of the kill zone. I think on the armor had the TAC marks cover up. and it looks like some spare eaak plates are jerry rig to the turret.

I for got On the front of the vehicle is not an antene. Its a cammie net pole. The bad guys were stinging up TOW wire on the roads. Plus it also use to move down power lines.

Not much I'm afraid...I'm not really into IDF stuff, but AFAIK, the one on Primeportal (and SVSM as well) is a prototype, not an operational APC...

Thanks for the informations Joe. According to late David Harper's book, the added armor plates were originally designed to cover the horizontal top hull surfaces.

Your welcome. I have another tip. Parts R16 need to be thinned out in order to fit over the door hinge bars. I cut off the tab that's on the bottom 'cause I could not find a corresponding hole for it. Joe helped me out in this area as far as what these things were for. Wingman out.

According to the picture properties, it seems it has been taken in December 2005...

I've just found another view of the very same AAV (you can notice the Hesco mesh rack on the hull top) :

Is there an after market set of EAAK armour? I have the HB AAVP-7 with PE and Mounting Bosses on the way, but realized that it does not come with the add on armour. Anyone know of something like this? Cheers.

Hobby Fan has an EAAK set designed for the Tamiya kit. It should fit the Hobby Boss kit too. It goes for bout $60 though. It would be cheaper to get another HB AAVP7A1 w/EAAK.

I have always had a idea to start my own company when I know HobbyBoss was puting out the AAV. And EAAK would be my first venture. The EAAK on the models need some help. I noticed on the HobbyFan set the sloped plate sit on the hull. But as you seen in ref pictures there raised from the hull with EAAK bosses. That always got me. My dream was to develop the set out of Photoetch and resin bosses. Each peiece would be indivdual and the instruction were going to base on the actual TM for installing the armor.

Thanks Gino, I was afraid that was the only option. I have seen that someone used the Minicraft kit's EAAK on another kit Tamiya or HB. I will see if I can find one of the two on ebay on the cheap, unless someone has a set of eaak that they would like to part with. Cheers,

I guess the Minicraft/Mini Hobby parts would require "some" (re)work to be OK...

Perhaps it's me...

It will require a lot of work if you want it accurate enough. The scratch built parts in my pics show the corrections to the armor. Be prepared for putting on a load of bolts, not just the main ones, but there's also multiple horizontal bolts on each armor plate-which I left off.

Hi Chief

I have this picture too (a larger version ) but I'm not sure it's the AAV you're looking for : there's no inverted "1" on the turret, and no markings sprayed over on the EAAK. Furthermore, the EAAK in this last picture has apparently some green-painted parts...
Anyway here's the original caption :
"CAMP RIPPER, AL ASAD, Iraq -- Marines of Beowulf travel in convoy in an Amphibious Armored Vehicle for a cordon and knock mission, April 15. Beowulf is the regimental reserve force for Regimental Combat Team 2, responsible for a myriad of tasks from security and sustainment operations to setting up snap vehicle control points. U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Stephen D'Alessio (RELEASED)"

LOL. Thats not armor on the turret that metal. Its a piece of the armor, but not actual armor. That piece goes between the driver and TC station. I cover the handle in that spot.
