Hi all
This is my latest project, road to victory,a 1/72scaled landing dio.I tried to make some explosion effect and creat the foam caused by tidal waves.

For a greater visual impact, the explosion is a little exaggerated and maybe oversided(i'm no expert to this ) but i'm happy with the final looking.

I hope you like this little dio,all comments and questions are welcomed

Superb take on the water effects! Can't believe this is 1:72. You are too talented for your own good Eric!

You've done a fantastic job on this -- hard to believe it's 1/72. I have two questions:

1) Can you please tell me who's infantry figures those are? I'm constantly searching for quality 1/72 scale US infantry and seem to have overlooked these ones.

2) Can you please explain how you made both the water and the sand and what materials you used?

Thanks. And once again....great job.

Hi Brian
1)Both sherman and the figures are from this set

Dragon 7360,well i'm afraid those figures may not sth. you want, soft plastic and poor detail.have u searched Caesar and Preiser yet? they should have some nice sets for US infantry.

this is one of those landing figs..
2)about the water and sand,i can post some SBS pics, hope it will help.

1. Covered the plaster base with clay, then glue a thin layer of super fine sand on that surface.

2.paint the sand with tamiya colors, then add contrast with pigments

3.paint the base sea color nere the shore

4."Base water",pour dyed clear resin into the fence

5.Place the tank in position and wait util hardening is done

6.Polish the resin until it shines:D(tracks can be seen)

7.waves and explosin.
i use dyed transparent gel to make waves, first blue, then white
use clay to make a support for the explosin,(not this big,the one in picture is just a sample).

8.again,i use gel to add details for explosin, you can see the textures on the water column and sands on its bottom.(due to the explosion)
9.about the foam,i use a kind of acrylic thinner for painting, something like thinned gel,it's white, and become transparent after dry,i dyed it with tamiya white and brushed it on the base gel,it just spread into a very random looking shape.

10.i also added some transparent sand on the edges of waves to simulate bubbles.
that's it. hope it can help

Love the scene.. but must say that the "how to" part really made my day keep up the good work and take pictures of the whole process. Really intressting too follow

Eric,

SUPERB! EXCELLENT! BRAVO!

Your skills and results would be great in 1/35th scale, but they are incredible in 1/72. I really like your "how-to" explanation and dio techniques.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.i'm really appreciate it.
indeed, the SBS pics are not that detailed cos this is somehow a testpiece for normandy landing,i'll make a 1/35 one once my hands are free

thanks again for all your replies.

Awesome and thanks for the step by step. I really like the water white foam and the blues in that last pic.
