Hi,
I'm building the Orange Box Israeli M50 Sherman, and would like to do a bit of weathering on this. What color would you recommend to raise the rivets and panel lines on a desert yellow tank?
Thanks!

It depends on your tastes. Years ago we'd have used a light brown wash to pop out the detail, but nowadays the trend is for a more realistic colour that would look dusty and have the same effect. I'm working on a vehicle from the Iraq theatre at the moment and will use a lighter dust colour to weather and detail in one go.

Thanks; is there actually a light dust color, or will you mix you own?

I'll go through my big box of paints and pick one that looks right - there is no one correct colour for dust as it depends on the environment that your vehicle is set in. I'be using a colour something like a light sand/cream to bring out the darker colour of the vehicle. In Vietnam I'd use a reddish brown, for Europe a light mud etc....

Hi David,
I would do an overall wash and pin washes with Burnt Umber, then mist buff and deck tan over the tank to create dust layers.
Also, look into the excellent AK Interactive line of weathering products. They have several dust effects washes that are easy to do and just what you're looking for.
