Message from Richard Hone of Mendips MAFVA.

Yesterday I heard the very sad news that Trooper Joe Ekins of A Sqn. 1st Northamptonshire Yeomanry has died after a long illness. Joe was the gunner of a VC Firefly which knocked out 3 Tigers and one Pz 4 during the German counter attack at St Aignan de Cramensil on the 8th August 1944.


Please see attached some photos of myself, Glyn Spur and Joe at Tankfest Bovington last year. We presented Joe with models of both his Sherman and Wittmann's 007 Tiger which (although disputed by some) was destroyed by Joe's tank.


I am sure that all MAFVA members will join me in expressing their sympathy with Joe's family at this very sad time.
