Hi guys,
I'm varnishing the basecoat on my T-70 and I'm having a little difficult getting a nice even satin coat with the Vallejo varnish. I've tried diluting it maybe 50/50, and mixing it into the Tamiya XF-67. Both give decent results, but not total even coveagre for some reason. Have I been doing it wrong somehow?
Will.

vallejo's won't mix with tamiya colors... it's just not the same type of color...
you might wanna apply the satin after having your tamiya base colors layed down... also keep a good distance from the model and open the nozzle.
since, when airbrushing (water-) diluted vallejos the water won't dry as fast as tamiya thinners. by keeping the distance you'll allow the mist to form an even coat...
Cheers, Max

Hi Max,
Thanks for that. I had already got a nice even coat of the Tamiya green, and I was spraying on top of it. Good tip about the distance, I suppose it's better to approach it like using a spraygun - large even coverage. I'll try it later, thanks .

Wierd. I've never had to thin it that much. A few light passes has always worked for me. I've had one bad bottle in the past (had lumps, etc). Properly shake it, thin with water or Vallejo thinner, light coats, should work.

I use the Vallejo Model air satin varnish and thin it with Vallejo own thinner, if i was to guess it would be around 30/70 thinner to varnish and then just spray evenly over the model.
Just have to remember it doesn't dry anywhere near as quick as Tamiya so leave to dry for around 30mins to ensure a good finish, better to do two or three thin even coats than a single that's to thick and drys funny
