Hello All,
I just wanted to put up a post here, as I'm newly returning to modeling after decades of being away. Building models was my absolute favorite thing to do when I was a kind, and I'm 53 now, and about a year ago, I decided, after reading Fine Scale Modeler every now and then, that I wanted to get back into it. I bought a bunch of aircraft models, but after spending the last year looking at them, and pondering their construction, I decided that I might be better off starting with armor, where my mistakes might be easier to cover up So, in addition to a huge amount of tools (airbrush, etc.) and supplies (paint, etc.), I'm starting to work on a Tamiya 1/35 Challenger II. I have to say that I am utterly astounded on the level of detail in these new kits, and from what I understand by reading reviews, the other tanks I purchased (a Dragon 1/35 Tiger I with Zimmerit, and a Hobby Boss 1/35 Merkava Mark IV) are even better in terms of detail. I don't know how they could be better, however. I just can't believe how incredible this tank is!

I am so looking forward to getting back into modeling, and I've really appreciated many of the posts I've read here, which are going to help me a lot to do the best I can. I know I have a huge amount to learn, and even when I was building in my youth, I was never any good at it. I just loved it. I want, this time, to build tanks and planes and other things as perfectly as I can, with ultra detail. My only problem, thus far, is finding that the super detail, and the associated tiny parts, does take a toll, and I'm learning that it gets to be a real challenge; I can only work for a short time before taking a break these days. That aside, it's going to be fun!!

curtis;
welcome back! I too just got back into the hobby after many years away. This site and the others on the Kitmaker network are a great resource for tips, tricks, techniques and getting your questions answered. There are some really outstanding modellers here who are great resources of information. Do not be afraid to ask questions as we all started somewhere. Cheers.
btw, check out the finishing and weathering sequence in the painting section, a real help.

Curtis, if you replaced 53 with 45 and Challenger 2 with M1A1, you could be telling my story. Welcome to the forums and welcome back to the hobby.

Bob
