As I plan ahead for future projects, the much maligned Italeri M977 looks like it might make a fun wintertime build.
Anyone aware of any major external differences in the vehicles used in OIF compared to the version REPRESENTED by the Italeri kit?

As far as I can remember no. I have not yet seen any Hemmt vehicles in the IOF campaign with differences worth remembering....
