Hi,
Some advice here is needed please:
... I tried some "Blacken It" on some fine brass chain a week ago.... results were what I'd heard they would be.... and I was very happy with the results.
However, today I find the chain is the colour of gray primer and rather delicate.... during my handling and without any effort the length of chain (1m I think) broke in two places. Not knowing what to do and hoping to salvage the chain I've left it bunched up in a small mixing bowl and gave it a good squirt of WD-40.
Is this symptomatic of not washing off the blackening solution thoroughly enough ? I thought I'd done the right thing after using the stuff and swilled the chain in a small bottle of plain water afterward and let it dry out on a paper towel.
Or is there a better way to stop the process even after a good washing ?
Now what should I do ? I can degrease it with lighter fluid if need be but should I just leave it as it is ?
Cheers
Carl
