For some reason I remember hearing (even though I build a M1A1 AIM back years ago when it came out I can't remember) that the M1 magic track that comes with the Dragon M1A1 AIM kit can be a PIA to put together...is this true?
I was looking at AM tracks for it and nearly all of them don't look like they have enough pad (lack thickness) on the track pads and the better ones are the LL style track that weren't fitted to the M1 I'm building.

The Dragon magic tracks are a little tricky to put together, but with care they can be straight forward. I'd recommend cleaning the tracks up thoroughly, and building short runs of about 4-5 links at a time. Then when for the curve sections, use attach one link at a time and wrap around the road wheels.
If you haven't already seen them, then I'd suggest looking at the AFV club M1A1 T-158 tracks. They're very easy to put together, two runs took me about 30 mins.

I've seen them, but the suffer from the pads not being thick enough on them...

And the Magic Tracks on the AIM kit have the center guide horn molded solidly into a link, so they don't look right going around bends.
That to me look far more obviously "wrong" than rubber pads slightly too narrow.

Scott,
T-158 LL has been in service since 1999/2000, so it was possible to see it on the model that your are building. Also, to my uncalibrated eye, the center guides in the track in the AIM kit are too short. I personally can live with the thickness probelms withthe AFV club track as then I do not have to sand it down as much.
My $.02
John
