Hello I'm new to this forum, and the last kit I made was about 12 years ago, so after checking and checking an image from Arnhem again and again, I decide to made the scene where a STUG IIIG can be seen from Major Kurt Kuhme, standing in the streets of Arnhem, with of his crew members sitting on the front of the STUG.
The figures are not all ready because after a lot of sculpting and sanding and working with Sylmasta, I need the stug for the final position of the figure, arms asf asf.
But today I was very happy to receive my STUG III G from Dragon the 6412 serie, which has the correct track wheel and the correct gun mantle/Saukopf without the coax opening, the stug which I wanted to build was from Alkett regarding the book from Marcel Swarts.
But when checking the parts asf, I noticed first that the barrel holder isn't include in this version!!!!
I totally saw this over, so I hope someone can help me out, which STUG version I should buy???
Sorry for my wrong English.
Regards, and I hope someone can assist me to add a example or image from the one I mean.

Hello, 1st thanks of the help sofar fellas, but I tryed and tryed yesterday to reply with a image, but not succeded.
But yes this is the tank from Kühme, but I have a image uploaded on my album here but I really don't get it here in the message, the one in the album or my gallery is the one who is planned to completely reproduce.
I think I have the bad luck regarding these batch of STUG's that those are a mix of Alkett and Miag, and right in between a early and a late one, the image show a closed horn track, and a Saukopf blende, but without the turret MG and shield, and the Saukopf without the coax opening, the track wheels are seen with the bolts on the sides, while later version doen't have the bolts.
But with the barrel catch which swings to the side when the barrel is elavated, and on my Dragon kit all is useable but it doesn't have the barrel catch:(
On all the stugs seen in Arnhem they are carrying a MG42 with the bipod simply on the top.
Regards

One of the wonderful/maddening things about the StuG III G production run is that it was a series of continuous improvements stretching from Nov '42 all the way into Jan '45. Modifications were ordered at certain times but the factories would use up what stocks they had before converting over to the "new" parts/modifications...so you don't have really firm timelines to work from in that respect. As you've encountered, working with a specific vehicle photo can be a challenge to replicate exactly.
The StuG you're looking to replicate is definately an Alkett vehicle (the waffle pattern zim is the give-away). The saukopf mantlet was ordered/introduced in Nov '43 (but didn't replace the block mantlet, both continued to be used), the travel lock in July '44, and the superstructure roof rearranged to accomodate the close-in defence weapon and remote MG mount in May '44...however there were shortages due to the Allied bombing for the close-in weapon and the remote MG mounts, so what you may very well have here is a StuG III G with the revised casemate roof and other features from a July '44 production run (zim was discontinued in Aug '44) but missing the remote MG mount and the MG42-on-bipod used instead as an expedient.
The neat thing about German armor is that you can "never say never" as things rarely moved in lock-step and as smoothly as we modelers would like to believe.

Thanks for your understandable mesage, but can I use my dragon model6412?
This model shows the opening on the roof for the remote MG but is casted closed with bolts.

I don't think so...if your kit is the same one that's in this Armorama feature article: https://armorama.kitmaker.net//features/3723&page=2 then it has the wrong roof layout for the vehicle you're looking to recreate. The only kit that DML has available with the correct hull roof layout (the side opening loader's hatches) is the older Imperial Series #9014. Give that they've started to produce the Saukopf versions though it won't be long before they do a "final" I'm sure.

Hello Bill,
Thanks for your interest and reply, but I checked the kit, and there are several parts in the kit which doesn't have to be used.
In the kit are the earlier fender supports, and the pressed steel ones, also in the kit is the early/mid screw roof and the later rivet construction roof part, and this one has the opening for the new style or late war remote MG42 installation, and of course the side opend hatches.
However the MG opening is moulded closed.
The builder from the kit did use the early/mid turret/casemate.
I noticed that this kit isn't easy to get, after Google and checking several model forums, the feedbacks about this kit is not easy found, or shows only the kit images and the Dragon assembly parts.
The only PROBLEM which I have now is that the whole kit is seen with extra or not to use parts, but the gun travel support is NOT in the kit, but I will get me one;)
Regards and thanks again for your help.
