Hey James- you really can't go wrong with a Young Miniatures bust- but yes they are expensive! Verlinden's bust range is old now- I'm not really inspired by it anymore either but there are some good ones.
I find that you can't go wrong with quality busts from SK Miniatures or El Greco miniatures.
I particularly like the work of Laurent Borget who runs LB Miniatures. His pieces are of very high quality- I've done his Big Red One Bust and it was a joy, I'm waiting for SK Miniatures to get in some stock of his new Panzergrenadier aswell.
As for scale, 1/9 and 1/10 are very, very similar so don't panic about choosing either. I find Verlinden's 200mm busts to be somewhat larger than 1/10, although it can depend on what bust you have.
You should also check out Planet Figure- particularly the News section and the Review bit- that and Historicus Forma are good places to find out about new and upcoming bust releases.
Good luck with the work man, make sure you post some more when you can, its always good to see!

Why does it seem that the hands on 1:35 figures are never in the correct pose to grasp their weapons or accessories? Your figures are looking really nice. I just started preshading faces to achieve the differences in cool and warm tones.

Matt- have you seen the Verlinden hand set? It has a lot of different hand poses and you can manipulate the thumbs a bit with the resin heated so you can shape the grip a bit more. I always have them handy just in case I think the box-stock pose isn't right.

Firstly, sorry for the quality of this update, have been working ( Finally)...
Here is a shot of my WIP Figure wall..
All people are attached to costa coffee stirrers. Keeps them safe, and out of reach. Nothing gets broken e.t.c
( Looks like for the sake of keeping my street cred amongst the modelling community I;m going to have to swap some Dvd's Out..)
Bar gunner's complete ( I think...)

The BAR gunner looks very nice! Did you add the tear at his knee? I had never considered modifying a figure in this way. Will have to try it in the future.
And, yeah. So, maybe "Queen" and "The Snowman" should be swapped.

Very nice, detailed work, amigo. Hornet has some terrific Marine heads that work well with DML figs. I have done dozens and they make a world of difference. One thing with Dragon, most of their M1 .30 carbines are wrong. Including this one. Bayonet lugs weren't issued until sometime late 1944 or so. Carbines in 1942 had the straght barrel with no bayonet mount. Small detail but it drives me crazy.
Great paint job, btw.

cheers guys!
Matt, the tear is included surprisingly enough.
Also, i don't wanna tell you the full title of the movie with "Queen" on the box, the perks of living with the other sex. Hah!
Conor, Archer fine transfers, worth the extra $$$
, thanks for looking in.
Mike, The carbine has gone, as they were just extra weapons, I wasnt happy with the moulding on the springies but changed it round anyway.
Thanks Karl, hopefully some decent pictures soon, and some better blended clothing...
as today i bought 2 new brushes. both considerably longer than the ones i was using before, i pickedup a Aquafine 3/0 daler rowney and a pro arte acrylic 202 2/0.
Im branching out and trying to find the best brushes suited to my painting style without spending big.
also some WN acrylic slow drying medium. let the blending begin....

Yeah I have the W&N Slow Drying medium- its different to Vallejo Glaze medium, its a kind of gel. I'm still playing around with it but have done a few interesting things with it so far.
I've been using a few brushes from a site called
www.thearmypainter.com
I got them ages ago and was surprised by how good they are.
(I have no affiliation with the company, I've just been impressed by their brushes.)
