A few years ago I heard of a Japanese company named Etokin that made resin kits of previously unavailable JGSDF subjects. I asked Hobby Link Japan if they were going to carry them and they replied that Etokin only sold within Japan.

Now they are available from Hobby Link Japan. These are not the full kits but conversion kits that use Tamiya's 1/35 JGSDF Type 74 Main Battle Tank kits as a base. They are still expensive (over USD $200) but if you want to make a Type 73 APC, Type 75 155mm SPG, or Type 78 ARV, it might be worth it (unless you are a scratch builder).
