Gents,
So what's going on with the 20 Leo's that we leased from the Germans? Are we keeping them, or are they going back to Germany?
TIA
Brad

Heh Brad !
I believe to have read a German defence article saying that Canada will keep the 20 A6Ms leased, and will deliver and pay for 20 Dutch 2A4s being rebuilt to German A6M standards and then handing these back to the Germans.
The 20 leased A6Ms will be rebuilt at the Canadian Plant to what ever config. the Canadian Army has in mind for them.
Allthough, a friend of mine with a little more insight also mentioned the option of Canada buying excess Dutch 2A6s and handing these over to Germany to be rebuilt.
Either way would make sence.
Cheers
Christopher

Geez and our government wants to go ahead and sell 2A6s to Indonesia? Somebody must have been offered a holiday home in Sumatra or something

Don't think the German Goverment will allow that.

At least one of the Canadian Leopard 2A6Ms that served in Afghanistn is in Gagetown. It arrived last week. From the image I have seen it does not look like it has had an overall rebuild....at least for sure not the paint.

Hi Brad, as Chris stated, the plan to return the Afghan service 2A6M CAN to Germany was re-jigged once folks figured out they were probably too beaten up to be returned to pre-loan condition without costing a whole lot $$. Cheaper (and keeping that good will going) to refurb the NL ones and work on our ex-Afg Leopards at our own pace and budget.
Now, if we just had some new support vehicles to keep up with the MBT fleet....

Thanks a bunch fellas! I guess my Leo2A6M without slat armour, in a single colour green and the mods won't look too out of place on my shelf then.
