Hi all,

I had a knock on the door from the Mail man, and there he was with a box in his hand. As soon as I saw the Real Models logo, I couldn't wait to open it up!!!

This is what was inside...

The set consists of 24 pieces of beautifully cast resin and a photo etch fret with 9 parts.

If you have been following Milo's build on Armorama, you'll know he had to make a new cab floor, as the tunnel isn't wide enough for the engine in the kit. He's included the floor and bulkhead in this set, so don't worry, you won't have to get the plastic card out!!

The main part is obviously the engine and transmission, shown here. The detail is stunning...

The master for this engine must be a work of art!!

Here's the Turbocharger, which will be promient as it's sat atop the engine. Again, this is beautifully mastered.

Next up we have all the pulleys and pumps which fit onto the engine front and rear, to busy it all up. Check the detail on those pumps!!

Here's the Air filter and hoses. You may have noticed that one of the hoses on my engine block was snapped off, Milo has this covered, by supplying two separate hoses. I intend to cut the hoses off the engine casting and use the separate parts, as I feel it will make the alignment with engine/radiator easier?

This is the exhaust pipe, from the Turbo to the kit exhaust. Just look at the way Milo has cast that concertina pipe..

The PE is made by Eduard in this set, and contains a fan and some engine logo's, plus some for the spares box..

You get a three sheet instruction book, printed in colour on A4 paper. They include a part breakdown, and show the parts fitted to the kit. Milo has included some pictures of his own beautiful build.

So, all in all, a lovely engine set for the amazing M1070 + M1000 kit from Hobby Boss. Just imagine how beautiful your tractor unit would look with this extra detail.

Next up from Real Models will be a Cab interior set and CPK set. My order is in already!!

Nige

Beautiful engine. The bonnet must to be opened or removed to see it.

Just a question, did you heard about a separate M1070 kit from Hobbyboss ?

Sorry if i misled you there.... I don't "know" if HB will do a separate tractor unit, but looking at the way the kits sprues, instructions and PE are split, I'm sure they will. I guess it will all depend on how successful the MAZ 537 was when sold as a Tractor only option??

the automatic transmission looks nothing like the one in the kit, except that it's round. The main issue is the way they did the oil pan and literally the whole botton half of the gear box.

The transmission is similar to the one in the Stryker, and may or may not have the drop box attached for all wheel drive. They are shipped unpainted (silver), but have seen them go out painted O.D. and black. at times.

sorry maybe poorly understood, but transmission is round basis and I dialed on a lathe. All the details I have done according to the manual and photos. I understand that someone sees an error, but I don't a perfect machine.

Most of the top parts you got pretty close (I was impressed that you got the retarder looking like the OEM on at the rear of the transmission (that boxey looking thing). The main housing goes pretty much strait down to the oil pan, rather than having the indented bottom part. Goto the Allison website, and you will see either an "HD" or an "MD" transmission in their logo (they both look similar, but one is about 25% fatter). If memory serves me right they use the HD, but I have seen them with "MD" transmissions as well. I suspect your trying to model the MD, as I can't recall seeing any HD's with the retarder option (it was in the works when I cleared out).

Would not have said much about it, but the average person will see the bottom side of the power pack long before he'll ever see the top half. The main case should go strait down to where it meets the oil pan housing (most of them use a cast aluminum housing instead of the normal stamped steel pan. If I had a scanner, I could send you photos of the real thing (I think I even have photos of the complete power pack). Of course you could simply fill in the indented sides with some putty, and there's nothing special about the shape other than it's pretty much tangent with the diameter on the sides.

For all you that will be building this power pack, be advised that they are shipped in a rough natural finished aluminum (MD's), and all the bolts and hardware are cadium plated (kind of a gold color). A few have been shipped painted O.D., and most HD's are shipped in black. As for the engine, it looks right. Yet even though we used that engine in the dynos, they are laid out much differently than the ones in a truck.

I worked in the area that built them for four years, and also did the tooling for the dynos to test them. To be specific I covered the assembly area and the area that machined the main case most of the time, so it's close to home.

if that tractor is the one I think it is (numbers don't register), it uses an "HD" automatic transmission. Kinda like the other, but much bigger in diameter with the strait sides leading into the oil sump. There was another power pack option that we were working on that used a 15 speed automatic, but last I heard it wasn't in production yet. That one will be very easy to model as it's really just a round tube with a similar tail shaft housing. Some versions had an oil pan, and others did not. I cannot tell you anymore about it as it would violate a couple rules that they watch kinda close.
