I just picked up the Tamiya 1/35th kit above and it looks like a great especially for someone like me who hasn't built a vehicle in ages. I do see that there are several AM sets out there but we will see which ones I buy. I have an idea for a small dio of this vehicle being inspected by a group of allied (not sure which country yet) soldiers after its been abandoned/captured. My question is would this work as an idea? I know this was a vehicle for the big shots, and I can't find many photos of either the actual vehicle or one in this situation, but it seems plausible to me. Thoughts??

Hi Matthew,

I think your idea could work fine, their were lots of abandoned/ destroyed vechiles all over the show, as for your issues with it being the kommandorwaggen you could always go a different way, corree do a set of an officer & lady friend for a car him with his arm around her shoulders, you could have the being driven around/ outside an outdoor cafe etc etc. I think it works & have already planned a dio along those lines in a different vechile. Just an idea! Or could do a dead officer with maps & briefcase being rifled thru

Cheers Mike

Matthew, Kommandeurwagens were, as the name suggests, a staff officer's ride so as a result even a captured one would be in excellent condition. Mucking it up would be like scratching a Rolls Royce. I'd recommend Tamiya's metal screens set, and there is an engine set among other things.

Thanks I didnt plan to do much "mucking it up", so no worries there I didnt know about the screens and the engine set, thanks for the tip. If you have a part number that would be great.

For the screens it's TAM 35226, for the engine compartment I don't remember but I think it's a fairly recent release.

Interesting pics.

These are regular military issue Steyrs, not Kommandeurwagens.
