Well, it all depends, of course.

If you are an absolute stickler for detail and accuracy, then no, as a 1/32 aircraft will be almost 10% larger than a 1/35 aircraft.

On the other hand, there are precious few 1/35 aircraft (I can only think of 3 at the moment) so if you want a diorama with an aircraft, a 1/23 plane is likely the only way to go. Unless you feel up to scratchbuilding your aircraft in 1/35?

An alternative is to do everything in 1/32. While not really used nowadays, in years gone by there were a number of WW II kits avilable in 1/32. From Grants & Shermans to Pz IVs & M3 Scout cars, there were several kits from Airfix & Monogram in the 60s/early 70s in 1/32. Of course, the problem there is that they are nowhere near up to today's stanadards so a LOT of work is necessary to get them to a modern award winning standard.

If the plane is more important to you, then pick one of the avialable 1/32 tanks to go with it. Any one. If the tank is more important, then pick a good 1/32 aircraft and put it towards the back of the diorama and not terribly near the 1/35 tank so the scale difference is not so noticeable. Also pick a small aircraft, like an Me 109 & put it on its belly to make it look smaller.

The most important thing, though is having fun. If you want to use a tank that is not avilable in 1/32 posed near a plane that is not avialable in 1/35 you really have no choice. Space them as far apart as possible in the diorama whle not losing the story you are trying to tell and do your best to hide the scale differences. Everyone knows that this is a losing proposition and will cut you a lot of slack, especially if you've managed to disguise the scale differences well.

Hi Justin,

I haven't actually done it,but have considered it myself.
I have heard that 1/32 and 1/35 figures can be used if they're kept a fair distance from one another.I have also seen dios were 1/32 planes were used showing sections of the plane ie:tails, wings, part of the fuslage.I'm sure that there is someone on the forum that can give you more concrete advise.I will also be interested to see the best answer to your question.

well really my idea was to have the plane crashed into a building in the backround, but scratch building would work.

Yes, 1/32 aircraft works just fine with 1/35 vehicles and figures. I have done it many times and the difference is not noticeable. The key is to keep constant-sized items (weapons, canteens, shovels, etc.) in the same scale. In other words, don't mix a 1/32 M1 Garand rifle with a 1/32 M1 Garand rifle.

Some examples:

1/32 VW Bug w/1/35 tank and figures.

1/32 die-cast Suburban with 1/35 figures.

I don't have any pics, but I have used a 1/35 M151 jeep with a 1/32 Huey. The Huey also had 1/35 figures in it as well. Same-same for a 1/32 AH-1G Cobra with 1/35 figures in it. Also a 1/32 F4 Phantom with 1/35 M151 jeep and 1/35 figures as well.

Like I said, it's not an issue.

Hi guys. I recently linked this in another thread about 1/32 Beaufighters, but it is relevant here as well. One of my club mates put this one together a while back using 1/32 aircraft and 1/35 vehicles and figures. The Beaufighter had a wingspan of 17.63 metres, so in 1/32 it will be 55.1 cm and in 1/35 it will be 50.4 cm wingspan. In a diorama this big 4.7 cm just sort of disappears !

Green Ghost Squadron

Hope this helps.

Cheers, D
