I have a friend who wants to scratch an interior for his M2A2. There are a couple of things I'm not clear about.
1. Were the fireing ports removed from the A2? I have seen interior pics labled M2 and the ports are there.
2. I know the seating was changed. Are there any other major interior changes that should be made?
He is going to use the interior from the M2 kit as a starting point.
Thanks
Chuck

I took numerous interior photos of the M2A2 and uploaded them into my motor pool (see link below). The four side firing ports (2 per side) were deleted with the M2A1, only the two ports in the rear ramp remain in the M2A1, M2A2, M2A2ODS and M2A3.

My M2A2 is not up to ODS standards, although some of the ODS modifications have been retrofitted to it. "ODS" are certain modifications that were added as a result of feedback from troops' combat use during Operation Desert Storm and does not mean this version served in Operation Desert Storm. In fact the "M2A2ODS" did not exist during Desert Storm.

So you'll find two types of M2A2s out there, those that have been brought up to ODS standards and those that were manufactured as M2A2ODS. The seating in an old M2A2 is shown in my motor pool, the ODS modification changed the seating to bench style seats.

Since the 3rd ID drew its vehicles from the pre-positioned equipment located in Kuwait, they most likely had a mixture of M2A2s that had some or all ODS modifications and some that may have even been manufactured M2A2ODS. I really don't know.

Chuck;

Has your buddy considered getting one of the old Tamiya M2s? They included an interior that would eliminate a LOT of tedious scratchbuilding. Regardless of which version he wants to build it includes most of the basics.

I believe if you read the last sentence in Chuck's post, you will see that his friend intends to use the old M2 interior as a starting point.
