Im thinking about joining the Market Garden groupbuild/campainge. Right now Im going through ideas and looking over possibillities. I was wondering if theres any pictures of the houses that Frosts men where occupying on the northwest side of the Arnhem bridge?
Is the Concorde book of Armoured units in Arnhem good for this?
Ive been looking in Cornelius Ryans book "A bridge to far" and noticed a rather macabre eyewitness during this battle.
Sergeant Reginald Isherwood of first battilion says that the dutch civilians appeared from shelters and cellars to care for the wounded but also to collect the dead and piling them on each other like sandbags creating 1,5-2,0 meter high road blocks to prevent the german armour from reaching the northern part of the bridge.
Ryan is usually reliable but has any one heard this as might as well. If true that could be a very provocative diorama indeed.

I heard the same thing about the dead being piled up, but it was definitely not to stop armor from reaching the northern side of the bridge, cannot quite remember why it was done however. Tough getting old... The Dutch also piled up their own dead as well.

I have the Concord book of the German Armoured units in Arnhem 1944 and it is a wonderfull book with a lot of good Pictures and nice dio Ideas.
I have heard of dutch civs that were piling up Bodies but I have never heard they used them as Roadblocks so I can`t really be a help to you about that.
But if you are planning to do something German the Concord boook would give you plenty inspiration
