Hi all,

I have a desert version (operation Telic) Tamiya Challenger 2. On the back of the tank, there are 2 small cans (not the fuel drums) that are in a rack. One of the cans is for water, the other's content is uncertain. In any event, I'm wondering what the color of these small cans are supposed to be. Were they painted the same color as the tank (sand), or were they some other color? Thanks.

Hey John,

I don't think I"d seen the first picture before, and it does appear to show the jerry cans, and they do look to be the color of the tank (or at least in that family of color). Thanks for the picture. I did learn, by looking up 'jerrycan' on Wikipedia, that they are supposed to be color coded based on contents. I don't suppose that is relevant to the military, however

Not that my model is going to be accurate enough to merit being concerned about the color of these cans, but if anyone else has any thoughts on this topic (I plan to do another Challenger, the next one, being really accurate), I'd still love anything anyone else has to add.

Hello Curtis,

The water can that you are refering to comes in two colours. The older can is black and later versions do come in a snad colour. The black cans have been in service for years they have a main lid with a large screw cap, and a small 'vent' cap, both should be secured with a length of chain. You could sometimes see them in green if they had been painted.

The fuel cans are green and they have a small metal tag to denote the type of fuel: Yellow = Diesel, Red = CIVGAS/Petrol & Grey = Kerosene.

I hope this helps

Brian
