Hey guys .. In the nearish future i will be building a dio for a customer featuring a 18ton Famo towing a 128mm A/T gun .
Now tonight i found these replacement wheels on Luckymodel from Real Model .
Heres the links for the wheels i am talking about .
http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=RM-A35047
http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=RM-A35048
http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=RM-A35049

Now here's where i need the help .. were these tires ever fitted to the Famo in German service or were they fitted to an English version of this vehicle.
I asked this cause the way it is written . them being called this WHEELS for FAMO english model .

Any help here would be greatly appreciated .

Don't think iv ever seen a German Famo with that type of tread on there tires.or maybe captured Famos wheels were changed by the allies and reused.

Phil, I know nothing about an English version, but looking at literally scores of period photos, I did not see a single one with any of those tread patterns. Frenchy may be able to come up with something, but the standard pattern is the "diamond" one found on many other Wehrmacht halftracks.

I had anticipated that Bill Unfortunately I've searched high and low for such pics... in vain.
Maybe british tires were fitted to vehicles tested after capture ?

Frenchy, I am always thinking of you looking over my shoulder when I post, LOL.

The Allies liked German halftracks, and I've seen numerous photos of vehicles in captured service (not testing, actual work in the field). I'm somewhat skeptical Brits (or anyone) would come up with alternate tires/tyres for them, unless there was a British vehicle whose tires would fit.

Otherwise, unless they could swap tires from another vehicle or come up with a store of them, I presume the usual option would obtain:

Throw the damned thing away.

I remember as a young man going out on a Navy destroyer and watching them heave a very large (and presumably expensive) radio set overboard. When I asked about that, they replied that it was easier to requisition a new one than get parts for repairing one. And if they'd saved the old set as a back-up, they could've been court-martialed for misappropriation of government property.

On a side note, the pictured German-looking half-track (not a Famo ) you can see at the bottom of this page is apparently fitted with British-looking tires...

It's too late to edit my last post, but in fact the pictured half-track is a British prototype, based on a captured SdKfz 7... (should have read the article more carefully before posting )

Hi Phill, if you're after replacement wheels for the Sd.Kfz.9 get the Panzerart ones, they're excellent. For about $10-$12NZD you get both front wheels and the spare.

Gentlemen all i can say is thanks a heap for the help ,,karl ya i was thinking the same sort of thing ,,Bill i am in total agreement with you when it comes to trying to find a pic ,,i found a total of one pic with a famo with different tires and these weren't even close to the ones from lucky model , Frenchy is right on the money with that British prototype ..its a Bedford BT Traclat built by Vauxhall and 6 were built ,intended as a hauler for the 25 pdr guns .
My porblem with the tires is that these appear huge in set 2 ,very large cross section and look booty as hell ..so in other words cool but they aint much point if they were never used by the Germans.
Might turn this dio into a slight what if . ya know like early 46 ,not idea at present to be honest.
Dean thanks a heap for that mate ,,these i am going to check out for sure

Hi all,
This is a good idea. Wheels I made about twelve years ago to order the German company NMC. they gave me reference photos Famo with these tires, which captured Afrika Korps. I think some of the photos were from regular publication.
Surely this is not fiction, because science fiction category in its production have not.
Just because someone does not know these tires does not mean that it is fiction.

Talking about British tires fitted to the Sd.Ah 116 trailer, I've read that the Scamell R100 tires were the same size as the German tires (13.50x20), and that "it is reasonable to assume that captured stocks were used." (from Allied-Axis #3)
