I know most people here wouldn't with their airbrush for a fat wad of cash, but what is your preferred paintbrushes? And how many do you have in your tool box?

I try and stick to sable brushes if possible - the difference in the resulting aintwork is extraordinary when compared to some cheaper brushes. I also find that some syntheitc brushes are good value.

I don't have a favorite. My moms a 'traditional' artist so I grew up with access to a bunch of different brushes and the info I neededto know what did the best in a certain situation.

That being said. I prefer natural fibers for my brushes and glancing through my brush jar quickly it appears that Sable is the most common bristle type in it.

I must agree natural fibers brushes can't be beat. I have a set from sizes #0/5 thru #1 for fine work, a quarter inch and a half inch. I tryed some nylon brushes but they just don't cut it.

I'm a "b rush junkie" .... I buy brushes in bulk at the local arts and crafts store, and find that the professional (fine white or blue hair) nylon brushes give me the most control... and as I can buy an assortment pack for about $10 for 4-6 brushes, I can afford to tmove them through three "buckets" before disgarding them... the first bucket is "perfect tip", the second bucket is "slight wear - great for doing washes and textures"... my third bucket is the "super glue" bunch... overall, I have about 200 brushes, with about a third in each bucket!

I use cheap brushes from the local hobbycraft come in packs of 5 I also get sable brushes from a warehouse that sell everything for about £1 each :-)

About the only rule I have for my brushes is that I do not mix mediums. I have a set of brushes for each medium, one set for oil, one set for enamel and one set for acrylics. Mostly sable but have other natural fibers also. Do not seem to do well with nylon. I guess I buy medium priced brushes. They work OK for me.

I've found that the best sable brushes are the Windsor Newton Series 7. These can be quite expensive but well worth the price. I use them strictly for figure painting. I use the cheaper synthetic and Vallejo sables for general painting.
