I was wondering if any of you knew where I could find pictures of ‘Anzio Annie’ (aka. ‘Leopold’) or ‘Anzio Express’ (aka. ‘Robert’) shortly after their arrival in the US.
Also, if any of you knew how they were transported to Aberdeen, that would be even better, since I recently acquired a 1:72 K5(E), and am thinking that it would be neat to feature it on my 1:64 scale railroad as either ‘Anzio Annie’ or ‘Anzio Express’ being transported to Aberdeen, assuming that they were transported by rail.

Are there photos of K5(E)s arriving in the US

A bunch of the stuff documenting weapons at Aberdeen PG, can be found at Carlisle PA, and I believe the K5's were transported by rail to APG

Rick,
Thank you.
I ordered ‘Anzio Annie – She’s No Lady’ off Amazon and am waiting for it to arrive.
I was wondering where in Charlisle, PA, I’d look to find the documents on the weapons at Aberdeen? Is it at the library?
Thank you again.

Over on the site com central there was some talk of the K5 I belive its under the thread of the stuff that moved from APG. The one person said that the K5 came over on a Barrage into New york , its is actually two seperate guns the carriage is from Anzio Annie and the gun barrel is from the other gun. At present the carriage is at Fort Lee with the gun barrel not moved yet due to the weight and the need for a special rail car its weight is somthing like 168 tonnes. Hope this helps.

Neil,
I’m going to check out com central (I’ve never been there before) and see if I can locate this thread since I’d love to see the picture of the K5(E) being moved in the US by barge.
One of the things I’ve found so far, and hope to build after I’ve complete the K5(E) is a sequence of photos of a USN Mk4 14” gun and MkI railway mount (aka a US railgun) being unloaded off the ship USS West Hosokie at the Philadelphia Navy Yard upon their return from France in 1919. Since the West Hosokie is only 423ft in length, it is “doable” in 1:72/1:64 scale.
My plan at the moment is to actually construct two, possibly three, K5(E) models, one depicting the ‘Leopold’ during her 1944 move to APG, and the other depicting ‘Leopold’ during her 2011 move to Ft. Lee. Both of these models will feature ‘Leopold’ dismantled and secured to flatcars.
Thanks to Rick’s suggestion that I order ‘AASWNL’, I now have a picture of ‘Leopold’ being moved in the US in 1944 (the book arrived today), on PRR flatcars as well as pictures of ‘Leopold’s’ 2011 move I received from railfans.
The third potential model will be of ‘Robert’, a K5(E) that was stripped of parts in order to restore ‘Leopold’ functioning condition and is now on display in France. While this gun never really traveled on US rails, I plan “fudge” history just a little and make this model so that it can be operated on my ‘S’ scale model layout.
Thank you guys…
'Robert' as I want to build her can be seen here;
