I'm making the Tamiay M13/40 tank. I've already painted it Tamiya Dark Yellow and now I want to try my hand at a camo scheme. It's an old Tamiya kit and doesn't give paint numbers, just colors. Any ideas for the best paint color for the green camo spots? The instructions describe it as a "green gray." I've got mostly Tamiya and MM paints.

Rodger, first of all I suggest to tone down the "dark yellow" with a white filter or to give another light coat of "dark yellow" with the addition of 30% of "flat white". For what concerns the green you can use I suggest the Lifecolor UA071 (FS34226) "Italian grigio verde mimetico". The closest available match for our base colour is Lifecolor UA080 (FS33434) Italian "giallo sabbia".
These are "equivalent" colours I've found on the net:
FS 34226 MOLAK LG6 XTRA COLOR X10 TAMIYA XF22 GUNZE H70 LIFECOLOR UA071
FS 33434 MOLAK 33434 XTRA COLOR X111 GUNZE H34 LIFECOLOR UA080
I hope this can help.
Ciao

Thanks to both of you gentleman.
Fabio, thanks for the tip about toning down the Dark Yellow. I mixed up some and painted it with it and it looks MUCH closer to other kits of it I've seen. Now I'll have to scrounge up some XF22.
Thanks again to you both.

try here too:
This is my feeble attempt at an m13/40 desert campaign.
Don't forget that the Italian yellow was the same as the early Afrika Korps yellow!!!
Obviously, this isn't finished yet!

It looks great so far Martin! If we have to analyze the "true story" of the colours used by the Italian in North Africa we can write a whole book... I agree with you, we used everything down there (the first seven M13/40 battaillons got there with their tanks painted in "grigioverde") and during the campaign they used whatever they found German, British and sometimes Italian too!
