Would Mini Art's US Tank Crew NW Europe be suitable for an SP Arty crew in the winter months in the Korean War? I was thinking of using them on my M43 howitzer.

Opinions??

Maybe this would help :

I guess the Shoepacs would be OK for 1950-1951...

Hi Gino

I did a lot of research on Korean War recently. I also look for crews for my M40 and M43 GMC/HMC. For the summer month, I would suggest M1943 trousers with T-Shirts or bare chests. I think I ues the torsos from Tamiya`s old 25 pounder crew. Although I found no pics of winter Arty crews the Parka type jacket with pile cap would be most likely. And how about a late war crew with body armor?
BTW Masterbox announced a crew for the Long Tom kit. Not sure when they will be released but they might be a good start.
I gave Masterbox some images of Korean War, lets hope they will use it for good.

Not being a WWII experten (I don't generally build WWII subjects) I was thinking the shoepacks look the same as Korea. Maybe the uniforms would do too. Maybe not.

Any other suggestions of some Korean era SP gun crews in winter or summer?

Gino, I am no expert on the Korean War, but I do know that at least in early part of the war (say prior to 1952), late WWII era uniforms were beiing worn. I will have to check what sources I have, but I believe these figures would work.

Gino,
I remember someone asking the question on Missing Lynx about the WWII Tanker's jacket and its use in Korea and I recall that the knowlegable ones said that thetanker's jackets were issued and quickly replaced by parkas as the extra length provided superior protection from the cold (as you well know based on your time supporting 2Manchu)

Hi Gino,

depending on how much money you will spend, HobbyFan does a late war (Korea) crew with body armor.

Just a few period pics that may help. AFAIK, they all show men belonging to the 1st Battalion, 17th Field Artillery regiment :

Might already be aware of this but here's a great color photo from DoD:

Reminds me of a real-life Verlinden diorama.

Cheers,

Picture taken before 1960 (option if one click on 'advanced search') and search word 'Korea'. There are not that many Korea War pictures published at DoD.
