Hi Gang.Iv`e made a start on my Academy M-247 Sgt. York (yes,i`ve read the reviews about what a poor kit it is(and the Tamiya one too)) But i have it a brick wall over the correct colour scheme.
I need help identifing the monotone green scheme as used on the prototype, the only scheme on the instructions is for a MERDC and even that does`nt give any help as to what colours to use.I use Humbrol enamels so if you could use these numbers it`d help.
All help is gratefully appreciated

Dan - The M247 was never deployed so I have never seen any in MERDOC. The test models were all in solid green. You could use a NATO green and after some weathering you would be fine

May be camo by museum curator imagination .... I don't remember seeing any photos of an M247, in the field, during testing, that were painted camo

I just posted it I didn't paint it (LOL) To my knowledge all Yorks tested down here at Bliss were green, probably OD. I think that this was an attempt to show it as a deployed vehicle although I never saw another AFV in the Desert in that get-up (and back then we had the 3rd ACR here.) Army museum are not hallmarks of accuracy. Now we have the 1st AD museum and their outside displays are just beat to hell. The have an M3 Stuart that is missing its mantlet so someone just cut a square piece of sheet metal and they welded it on. Its horrible. The Army doesn't give a sh*t about its historic vehicles. Look at Cobra King, a historic vehicle and how they treated it for years. The USAF does a much better job.

LOL....I would agree with the museums. The only good one was the old Aberdeen museum but that's gone now.

I have two pictures of an M247 wearing a version of that colour scheme - the colours are less gaudy and the layout is slightly different, but it's basically buff, tan and deep brown. Being only three colours it doesn't seem to be a MERDC scheme; it resembles the 7th Army camouflage layout.
For an all-green one I'd recommend late olive drab rather than NATO green. Other references that I have certainly suggest that, and the M247 was developed well before the US Army adopted the NATO scheme, which makes an older US colour seem more likely.
