Hi all,
I just got a new book 'Thunder Run' which is about the 3ID during OIF. It has a picture talking about the smoke launcher on a M1 being loaded. I am not sure how/what that means and was hoping someone can explain better.
This might be a stupid question, but I was hoping that of the many experts might help a newbie like me.
Thanks,
John

The M250 (or L8A1) six-barrelled Smoke Grenade Discharger on M1/M1A1/M1A2s look like this unloaded on a M1A2 SEP (images from Prime Portal):
This image of a M1A1 shows both the light green long smoke charges and the shorter black charges loaded;
The USMC M1A1s have different version I think called M257 eight-barrelled Smoke Grenade Dischargers, which work the same way.
This site explains probably much more than you want to know: U.S. Vehicle Grenade Launchers on Gary's Combat Vehicle Reference Guide.
I hope this helps.

Jeff,
This is exactly what I was hoping to find out. Thanks.
This other website is a treasure-trove too.
Thanks,
John
