I need to find out what sort of paints I can use on rubber?

specifically Nitrile Rubber.

I wondered if anybody has any ideas??

I would suggest using acrylic. But, it may not stick. Enamel will damage the rubber. I doubt laquer would be good for it. Latex may work, but I'm not sure it will stick either.

that was kind of what I was thinking. just had a thought though, maybe if I coat with PVA wood glue first, maybe the acryic will work.

Something else that may work is to coat it with Future; and flat coat on top of that.

depends on what you want - does it need to be totally safe with the surface detail on something that will not be handled much, or durability but having to potentially accept some loss of surface detail better?

lacquer is your best bet if it needs to stick and you can risk the volatiles doing a little surface damage. acyclic enamels (like tamiya or sanyo Gunze, butnot straight acrylics like valleho) might work out well if fragile paint that will never be touched is ok.
