Hi Guys,
I'm currently doing the HB Landrover Defender. I've already got the main components assembled and painted in sand colour. But with the frame and rear bench seats it seems a shame to put the hardtop on and hide so much detail. Being trying to find pictures of a real-life one without the harttop, but not the WMIK version either...

Can anyone help?

thanks
Sean

Interesting thread Scott, thanks. Will spend some time perusing the the rest of that forum also. Oh to have the money to do such 1:1 scale projects....

What I'm trying to find out is were these used in Iraq or Afganistan with just this frame:

Maybe with camo net over it, but certainly without the hardtop.

Cheers
Sean

No Probs mate. A mate of mine from my old platoon used rovers like that in Iraq! If you get hold of the new ET model set it has the mesh for the windows.

I have seen pictures of hard top vehicles without the top, only the frame, being used in Iraq in both sand and Nato green for patrol duties. Sometimes with, sometimes without the windshield fitted. The instruction sheet in the Hobby Boss kit actually shows this as an option to build the kit in, but are not very clear about it. I have also seen pictures of similar vehicles being used in Afghanistan by Gurkhas and even as far back as Kosovo by the Paras. Some of the vehicles do not have the rear troop seats fitted. Accurate Armour had one of these vehicles, fitted with the mesh anti grenade/rock screens, in their range and still had them in stock last time I checked. Versions of this vehicle that do not have windshields fitted usually have a wire-cutting device fitted to the dashboard to protect the squaddies standing in the rear bed. I also like the look of the vehicle with just the support structure and am glad Hobby Boss decided to include it; makes for a slightly over-looked version of this vehicle.

Hello Sean,

I have found some pictures of 110 and 90 land rover series in Irak and Afghanistan.

90 serie

110 serie with soft top or partial soft top

110 serie with counter IED system. I don't know how they are fixed.
