I have for a long time wanted to to build a T-35 and for my sins I have obtained an ICM 1/35 scale kit which I understand has some limitations !
Before I start, I plan to obtain all of the parts needed to bring this model up to par, so the question is, what do I need.
I have found that Fruil make replacement tracks and Eduard does an etched set that does address some of the short comings, however I also understand that it too has some issues.
What I am totally lost on is what replacement gun barrels are needed and are available (btw my knowledge of Soviet weapons is non existent, I normally model US / British)
Thanks

Hi Ian,
1) You'll definitly need space on your shelf, since it's a huge tank.
2) I'll recommend using friuls, because the kit tracks are far off.
3) Using Eduards set is optional. Be aware, that most of their sets don't really correct, but enhance kit parts as they are. Their T-35 set is no exception to this rule.
4) Good references are a must! Only about five dozend left the production lines, so vehicles were very unique. Issue #159 of militaria from poland is a good start. Unfortunatly http://grayknight.narod.ru closed down. They had a mass of T-35 pics online.
5) One very obious mistake is the MG-port at the main turrets back. There should be a flap only.
If you need more specific info, just ask.
V
P.S.: give me a PM and I'll send you some pics...

Hi Ian,
I've got this one in my stash waiting for the time when my abilities catch up with my aspirations.
You definitely want a good reference book - I think Mauro has linked one on army.lv. The kit is a mish-mash of different versions, so check your references, decide which version grabs you and take it from there.
Study Artyom's build (check out the extended Russian version on panzer35.ru)- if you look up 'super-detailing' in the dictionary, you'll find a picture of his T-35.
Jordi Rubio do a barrel set. Model Point also do the main armament barrels, as well as the MG barrels.
The Eduard PE set is of limited usefulness. If you've used Eduard before you'll know their plating reacts with skin-contact and turns black - it's a good idea to use very fine sandpaper to expose the brass under the plating.
If you blog the build, I'm sure you'll get plenty of help and assistance.
Cheers,
Dierk

Thanks Guys, those are some great sources of info and references.
I have just received the kit, and yes, it is a big lump ! Now the challenge to locate the after market detail parts. Anyone got a good suggestion for source ideally in the USA for the 7.62 machine guns ? I did find model point listed on various websites but no T-35 barrels or machine guns.
Looks like I can get the main gun barrels direct from Jordi Rubio, I could not find that set anywhere here in the US.
Thanks

I have the Alanger version of this kit, so thank you for asking as I will probably need the help too. I can only echo what the others have already said. I would add though that CMK (I think) make an armorment set with three of the main guns. As far as a US source for AM parts Great Models stock pretty much everything you will need,BUT they are closing and I think Spure Brothers are taking over the business as I understand things

Ian
I have just finished scratchbuilding this beast in 1/72 scale. I have posted pictures on the facebook page 1/72 176 scale armor. I have amassed a ton of ebooks on the vehicle, I did use the Russian book on the vehicle and I used the plans in George Bradfords book which are not to the scale that they say in the book. There is also a pretty good build on this site just search it.
As for replacement barrels the BT series will work you can scratchbuild the machine gun barrels and the main gun barrel might be avalable although Im not sure. If you need info drop me a line i will try to point you in the right direction.

I must admit I'm in love with this beast after seeing the wip of nikolaev (neonik): https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/179029&ord=&page=1
and the idea of making one attracts me terribly ... unfortunately does not seem so easy to find, anyone have any news on where you can find, or have one to sell?
thanks to all, and good job on this!
bye, p.
