You have to be more specific, what vehicle are you talking about ?
Also, what conditions will it be operating, and is it part of a dio ?
Try the search feature, there are lots of track painting tutorials

I'm talking about any tank. I know that some have steel tracks and some rubber, rather than asking each time I wondered if ther was a way to find out which kind a paticular tank had. If I am not mistaken the type of terrain the tank is traveling on would not change the track it had, just the looks/wear on it.

I think that I understand that the terrain would not change the track, just the wear and tear on it !!!
the way you would find out what kind of tread a vehicle had would be by the instructions or by research.

I agree. I think I know what you mean. The difference between cross-country tracks and ones used on pavement. It comes down to the vehicle. The Sherman, for instance, usually had rubber inserts. However, not all of them did. The specific model is key. As well, some were fitted with steel or rubber tracks. This depends on the theater and time period. Trying searching for the specific tank on google images. You should be able to determine the type of tracks you need.
All German tanks from WWII had steel tracks. Usually, these were painted a red oxide.
I have already covered Shermans, but should note this is the same for all US tanks during WWII.
Russian tanks also had steel tracks.
I'm unsure of British and Japanese tanks.
Hope this helps clear it up for you.
