Hi Matt,

Try here and scroll down for Canadian ones with wading stack "stumps".

And look here for some AM goodies.

Thanks Tom. I'm getting the Echelon decals with the kit. HLJ doesn't have the wading stacks in stock, but I can order them directly from TWS. These are the stacks, not just the bases.

Does TWS British Style Wading Stacks (TWS003) come with the bases or do I have to purchase those separately?

The Echelon decals are for tanks in Syria, Egypt, etc...

I don't think any of THOSE Sherman III's had wading stacks.

Since you want the stacks actually on the tanks, that's somewhat limiting to times, locations, and units. What are you trying to portray?

I'm just wanting to do a counterpart to a panzer iv. I already have the Sherman and would like to build one with the exhaust stacks. I considered doing one with a porpoise sled, but can't find any sources on which Shermans towed them. So, date and location are not of importance.

A Sherman II with wading stack and towing porpoise is certainly feasible Matt. This is from an old article about Porpoise published in Tankette some years ago:

"Most assault units on British/Canadian beaches employed the porpoise but it's seldom mentioned in their own records other than in passing."

It goes on to say that 27 Armd Bde used them and that 13/18H had 2 Sqns of Sherman V and 1 Sqn of Sherman III wading tanks, while Staffordshire Yeomanry and East Riding Yeomanry operated Sherman III wading tanks. All 3 units towed porpoises up the beach to drop-off points.

Hi Matt,

The British took a lot of their Shermans from North Africa to Sicily and Italy, complete with rather worn disruptive paint schemes

If you have a look at Concord's 'British Sherman Tanks' or 'British Armour in Sicily and Italy' you will see a fair few pictures of British Sherman IIIs with full or partial wading stacks

Of course, you can go to the source for free at www.iwm.org.uk/collections/search the imperial war museum collections website.

Select photographs and try searching on 'Volturno' (good pics of the 4th CLY fording the Volturno river) and 3rd County of London Yeomanry and 4th County of London Yeomanry. Or simply 'sicily' and narrow it down with the options on the left

Bison do some good decals for British Shermans

HTH

Thanks for the info! Looks like I can get the 13/18 Hussars decals from Bison.
