Hi gentlemen,
I am pretty close to finished with my first serious base. My sincere Thanks to Shaun Keenan for his SBS which i followed to the letter. Tried my hand at building a stone wall and the tree is a root from some dead srubs i pulled up from the back yard. got a bit left to do but i wanted to share wit you fellas.

Gary: Looks great so far. My only comment for now would be some green on the ground around the tree and slightly larger(taller) grass clumps or shrubs scattered about. This will be a very fitting base for your most excellent tank. I look forward to seeing more.
Happy Modeling, -zon

@BBD468 – Gary,
You modeling monster, the FORCE is with you! You’ve done an excellent job with your first diorama base. Your T-62 looks right at home. Kudos to you Gary, you’ve succeeded in completing your first diorama base and it looks realistic.
I have to date only completed one base for a 35th scale build and it came out looking like one of the tapped out looking want-a-be Foster Farms chickens.

Gary- real nice job on the base. I find doing bases difficult but rewarding at the same time! I think you have the angles correct and the tank is actually sitting on the terrain as if it is heavy, which is always important and not always easy to do!
The two things I think could be imrpoved are that the tree could be bigger- it looks quite stumpy compared to the tank, I think something a bit taller definetly. Zon also pointed out that a bit of shrubbery around the tree might be an idea and I agree with him about the grass- bigger, more disverse clumps would work well.
Still, a stellar effort Gary- you should be very happy with this.

Simple, clean and looks good. I think that this is a great base for this model as the base really puts the focus on the model, which is really well done Gary. Cheers.

Here some pic of Golan heights

Well, according to the pics, the only thing which you could add, are some green foliage on your tree Gary
The rest looks incredibly good, especially the wall!

Looks good Gary. Where's the SBS that you followed? Here on armorama?
If I had to make some sort of comment, it would be add some of the groundwork colors into the tank. Adds that last bit of consistency.

Hi gentlemen,
Hi Damon - Thanks for the complement man!
Mauro - You are the Man!!! You have a vast photo library, yes? Those pics are great. Not sure how to ad foliage to the trees. Any help on that would be awesome!

Jesse - I used the SBS by Shaun Keenan. only thing i did different was the wall and some backyard soil. Heres the link.

Hi Gary,
Looking really good indeed esprcially for your first diorama!!! I too have been following Shauns SBS & am attempting my 1st dio & model in 25 yrs. In it I have made a hedge / bogace using woodlands scenics poly fiber & mixed herbs maybe you could look at it & see if something like that works for your tree??
If you do take a look at it look at the one that says 1st dio & model in 25yrs take two!! The first time i tried to blog & post photos didn't work.
All the best & keep on completing.
Cheers Mike

Thanks Fellas!
Jesse - I got all my inspiration for my T-62 build and base from seeing your T-55, remember? I do!
Jeff S. - Im not planing on doing alot of bases simply because of lack of space. But ill never be affraid of giving it a shot again. having said that, i will be doing a small dio for Rommel and the "GREIF".
Mike - Very impressive hedge!!! what herbs did you use? i have a Hobby lobby close by and the probably have the poly fiber. I have a few herbs but if you can be specific ill get the right ones. Thanks for the info and the link. I have the Dragon Puma. I love the Puma but the Under carrage has keep me from pulling the trigger. How much trouble was it?

Hi Gary,
Thank you very much for the comments, I am happy with it so far still needs painting tho.The herbs I used were mint, basil, marjoram & oregano I just mixed them all together & went crazy. I just used hairspray to afix them to the poly fiber,it took two drenchings of herbs to get the fullness I wanted.
Also the article I read suggested using different mixes of the following tamiya colours
X-28 Park Green
XF-4 Yellow Green
XF-26 Deep Green
XF-58 Olive Green
Hope that helps & good luck
Mike

Gary,
Sorry I forgot the info on the Puma LOL, found it went together fine all I would say is that don't glue the big suspension arms in until you have all of the suspenion units done & together & attached to them & then add the glue when you sit them down so you have all eight wheels flat & no "air time"!!!
Cheers Mike

great job Gary
Thanks Craig!
I have made some weeds from hemp, twine, and herbs. I have glued them in place. I think the look ok, but i would like you guys opinion. I dont want to overdo it for sure. but i dont want it to look silly with weeds and foliage made of stuff from the kitchen pantry. anyways, heres some pics.
