Hello,
I'd like to find out if its proper to depict a beutepanzer having its original paint scheme -- i.e. either a Sherman or T-34, retaining its greens, with just their insignias replaced by balkenkreuzes. My thinking is that its very late in the war, there's material shortage, and its needed to get be in action quick. Would this logic work?
Cheers
Tat

Tat,
In the case of Shermans and T-34's (and any other American or Russian tanks) from 1944 on, that's exactly what the Germans did. The tanks remained in OD or 4BO and had balkenkreuz painted on them. They were used until they could not be repaired or could not be replenished of ammo. (This is a 99% rule.) See Panzer Tracts 19-2 for full references and dozens of photos.

Thanks for the confirmations, Matt and Mauro. I was thinking that was the case, but I just needed to be doubly sure. BTW, what approximates 4BO in the Tamiya paint line? Cheers, Tat

Well, the closest ones in my opinion are the XF-51 Kakhy drab and the XF-62 Olive drab
First one is maybe too greenish, second one too dark.
Anyway look here

Alex has used a mif of XF-58 Olive green and XF-52 Olive drab and he's got a shade which in my opinion is very convincing
Cheers
