Hi guys,

Just a quick question/request. Were any of the Henschel turret king tigers fitted with the earlier large muzzle brake? There are a few photos of porsche turret tanks fitted with the two part barrel and large muzzle brake so would it be safe to assume there would of been some crossover with the change to the henschel turret?

Anyone have any photos or information on this?

Many thanks in advance
Matt

Hi Matt,
Two that I'm aware of are '111' and '112' of the sSSPzAbt101.

I'm busy with a '112' myself at the moment:

Grant, thank you very much for the references, much appreciated. Your build is looking excellent by the way

Cheers

Just in case anyone else is interested I stumbled upon this photo while searching for references.

It appears to have the larger muzzle brake but is from SS Pz Abt 501. So I would guess the early muzzle brakes were still be being used up from stores or is it was a replacement

Hi Matt,
You're not the first to be fooled, but the KT in that pic is actually a 1/35 model by Chris Wauchop, here:

I'm pretty sure the 'real' 008 had the smaller muzzle fitted.

Thanks Grant

I was getting a little suspicious when I was having trouble matching parts of the camo with other photos of 008. Although I was doing this to try and see if it was actually 008 and not possibly 007 or 009, not to see if the photo was a photoshoped model! Very good effort though!

While still on the topic, do you know if there are any other photos of 111 and 112 posted earlier? Ideally i'm looking for a good shot of the camo on 112 and confirmation of the turret number colours. I checked the Tigers in focus site and its difficult to tell due to the lighting. The camo looks like random 3 tone if 111 is anything to go by.

Hi Matt,
I have a few pics of '112'. They are all stills from a film reel. As far as I know these are the only one's of '112'.
Tomorrow (to much work today ), I'll sort some pics out for you of these 1st Company KT's, that I think best show the camo and markings.
The general belief is that these all had Yellow turret numbers, some with a white outline and some without.
Personally I'm not so convinced. To my eye, some look to be most probably Yellow, i.e; '121' and '123', but others not.

Anyways, I'll be in touch when I sorted some pics.

Hi Matt,

Assuming you're not aware, there is a fantastic resource for all things King Tiger which is dedicated to the Trumpeter model here:

AFV Modeller Trumpeter Tiger 2

There are some more pictures of 111 & 112 here:

http://www.tiif.de/thread.php?threadid=49

I am going to be basing my build on KT105 of 1./s SS Pz Abt 101 and have found that Peddinghaus do some decals for that particular tank. They show the numbering as yellow with a white border but as vanhall has pointed out, it's debatable whether this is the case for the whole company.

Mike.
