Hi

I need a bit of help. I am painting a figure of a German Panzer Officer and the uniform is shown with a Pink piping, how pink was this. Its a Tamiya 1/16th Scale kit and the instructions call for Tamiya X-17 "Pink", which also shows as a match to Humbrol 200 "Pink" which I have, but want to be sure on just how pink the piping realy was as both the Tamiya and Humbrol "Pinks" are very very Pink.

Thanks for ant help with this

Hi Paul, I hope I can help you a bit with this.
Here's a couple of pictures showing the piping on a wrapover tunic:

Insignia:

An enlisted man's 'garrison style' cap:

Panzer Officer's 'Crusher' cap:

I've never actually used Tamiya or Humbrol pink but judging by what I've just seen on the internet the Humbrol 200 pink is slightly paler and to my eye looks closer to the color of the piping- the Tamiya pink looks too bright. A pinky flesh color may also be quite useful but you could always experiment with diluting a red paint of your choice with white until you get a hue you are happy with.

As you can see in the pictures some of the piping appears in different hues and I suppose new piping would be quite vivid but with wear and tear and washing etc it would likely pale quite a bit so you have a few hues you could work with.

I hope this helps.

I think that really reddish piping is really StuG or Panzer Jager as they wore the red artillery Waffenfarbe.
