I thought I'd just throw this one out. Last night on the way home I pulled up alongside a truck towing a trailer. On the trailer was a bren gun carrier, or universal carrier, or whatever they call them. I happen to be making one now and I got a kick out of seeing one in real life. It was painted olive drab with a big white star on the side. I have NO idea where they were taking it. Funny happening to see a 60 year old military vehicle going down the road.

I've run across the same thing over the years, there are a couple of collectors somewhere around here. I've passed a StuGIII and a Panther at differant times, the scary thing is when I have a camera in the car (you ever try to drive and take a photo at 60mph)?

I used to live in Quantico Virginia and on base there was the turret minus the gun to an M4A1 sherman! It was so rusted. It was near the armory if I recall. There was a scrapyard and I hadn't noticed it untill my dad pointed it out to me.

Part of my coverage area at work is an Interstate that is used to transport armor to AAD for refurbishment. The truck stop up the road seems to always have all variants of 113's and Bradleys parked on trucks out back. Some very interesting paint jobs come through.

One of my father's buddys has a universal carrier in his back yard that runs. He uses it at military demenstration shows. It is pretty neat stuff!

You guys are pretty lucky, although I do get to see the odd piece of modern equipment on the interstate now and then.

When I lived in Anniston Alabama we used to see that all the time. The Army depot down the road was overhauling M-60s and upgrading M-48's. Of Course, living in Fort Knox for four years made it no big deal any more. There were tanks set up on pedistals that never made it into production. Even an old M103 was in Radcliff
