Hi all,
Recently finished this diorama of an Irish Air Corps Dauphin carrying out rescue at sea to ship in distress.
Kit used was the Trumpeter Dauphin with the Fireball modelworks Conversion kit and Decals from the excellent Max Decals collection.
SAR helicopters take a huge beating when exposed to the elements at sea during rescue ops so I wanted to show a weathered heli that had been on many an operation.
The Sinking Ship is the old Revell US Navy Swift Patrol Boat with a few add ons and weathered with Mig Pigments rust and smoke set.
The sea effect was sculpted with pollyfiller and painted with Humbrol 145 blue, 105 green for the shadows and Matt white for the sea crests and given several coats of future floor polish to enhance the water effect.
The downdraft affect from the Helicopter wash was done by drybrushing circles of matt white and then brushing on Mig Pigment powder for that blurry look.
Figures are converted from the Hasegawa Carrier deck crew, pilots are from same.
The harness on the Winchman is scratchbuilt using strips of tamiya masking tape and painted sky blue.
Build duration was 5 months.
Enjoy the pictures and all feedback welcome.
Thank you and Enjoy

Alan- I saw this at the IMSS show and I have to say it was a total stunner- brilliantly conceived and the way you have sorted the actual dio out in terms of placement and finish is first class. It is great to see some close ups of the whole thing, there's so many things that really bring it all together. Stellar work.

Very nice. Great job on the whole dio. I will repost this on the Aeroscale Rotary Wing forum so it can be seen there as well.

Howdy Alan,
Good to see you again last week and also get the opportunity to see the rescue diorama in person. Again: great work! Love the drama and dynamics of the composition.
Cheers,
/E

Fantastic dio Alan. The boat and heli look great, but the composition and action are top notch. Nice one.
Hopefully Von Rosen behaved himself when he was let loose in Dublin?
