yesterday i painted my stuart tanks turret.
then to day i used a gloss coat of testors clear and let that dry.
so i tryed something new and i scewed up.
instead of useing the the brunt amber acrlyic with rubbbing ach.
i used reg model master paint thiner in stead. so i put the wash on and it started to take the
pain off the turret so i did not panic.
what i did was let it dry i will re spay the turret and then use theburnt amber with rubbing ahcol. i did that to the hull of the tank and it came out ok but the washreally did not go in to the lines that much,,,, then i dryed brushed the hell out of it.. i will post a pic...
so why does the paint thiner take off the paint even with a clear coat. did i not waite long enough for it to dry

Hi tazz

It sounds like the clear-coat and wash used the same type of thinners!

If you'd used Future (an acrylic varnish) for the clear-coat and let it dry properly, then an enamel-based thinners (or turpentine + oils) should have been safe.

Alternatively, as you say yourself, an acrylic wash over the Testors clear shouldn't have been a problem.

It's always important to make sure each coat is really dry, otherwise you can have problems even if you follow "the golden rules".

All the best
